After taking out the boat, the one where they didn't even paint the bottom correctly and left about 5 inches exposed to barnicles and algae, I saw I was going to have a nightmare of a time cleaning it, I used a power washer and that cleaned it a little. Then I cracked open this bottle of stuff my nephew gave me, it was from West Marine, EZ on EZ off, it was a miricle! I couldn't beleive it, my boat was cleaned in no time! Anyone know whats in this stuff?

don't get it on any metal such as I/O drives or trailers.

Ha! Thats what I suspected! When I spilt some on the cement wall I noticed a reaction... Thanks fellas!

All I use, 36 years now, is muriatic acid & water. 50/50 thru a 1 gal plastic garden sprayer. Key is to let it do it's work. keep wet for 10-15 minutes & then pressure wash off. My pressure washer is a 1700psi and cost $99. Lasts 4-5 years.

It does NOT bother my OD's, but the trailer shows a bit of corrosion.

I think it's called On/Off. West Mariine has it, and there are a few others that do too. Basically muriatic acid.
It works really well.
I power wash my boat as soon as it gets blocked up. The bottom comes out great, but the water line is always really cruddy and needs something extra.
I put a pair of gloves on, pour some On/Off in a disposable plastic container like the kind you get your soup in from the Chinese Take Out, and use the cheapest 1 1/2" or so brush I can find.
Using the brush to work it in a bit I start at the back of the boat and by the time I get to the front, it's time to rinse. Move to the other side and repeat, then back under the swim platform.
The whole process takes about 10 minutes.

Or Sno Bowl Toilet Cleaner at a dollar store for $1/quart; same acid mixture, same results.

How's that stuff do when applied to an Awl Grip finish?
I'm curious and only have Gel coat and bottom paint (can't remember which was recently used) on my 39 year old boat.

You should never need that on Awlgrip - just use the Awlwash and it should be clean.
For the most part the Awlgrip will not stain in the first place so removal should not be an issue.
If you have a few leftover small stains (like at thru hull drains) use the Awlgrip polish - you wont need much.
Whatever you do please do not put bleach on that Awlgrip coating.

Hope this helps

FWIW - repeated use of those acids will speed up gel coat chalking and make it harder to clean each year. Try and keep the % low and time less and maybe even see if oxalic acid (like in FSR) will work.
