I always get a kick out of these soundings

Every time we get in and out of the Tongue of the Ocean, I get a kick out of watching the sounder showing the vertical cliff or at least part of it as it drops way below the sounder can reach. The TOTO can be as deep as 7000’ which is why the USN has been conducting sonar testing for years

First picture is leaving the Exuma Bank south of
Nassau, second is getting on the Great Bahama Bank north of Andros. From 20’ to 1500’ and counting in half a mile.

Been around boats and the water my whole life, but the thought of getting in water that deep has always given me the heebee geebees! Amazing when you think there is more of the earth below the oceans, including some of the largest mountain ranges than there is above.
