I am Cracked..

Hi fellow Carver lovers..I have had one nagging cosmetic issue ever since I bought our boat four years ago. The galley countertop was cracked about a foot from the end on the starboard side of the galley. Diagonal crack. As luck would have it. About five minutes after closing on the boat, I leaned on it, and it broke off completely. Without much forethought-Experience, I simply glued it back into position. Although it is perfectly functional, It is an eyesore. I have not had much luck with Galati yachts (remaining Carver dealer in So. Florida) The kicker is that all the rest of the Surface tops in the salon and pilothouse are made of the same material.So I can't easily swap it for a new countertop of different material. It is a synthetic/plastic. Black with gold flake particles. Anybody have a suggestion on who to contact to correct this problem? ie, replace the top altogether..

I would have it pulled and take to a countertop specialist. It it is synthetic, they can epoxy, clamp, sand, then buff and it should look like new, assuming you have all/most of the pieces.

The challenge would be having it removed as it was probably built, dropped in, and buttoned up and is semi permanent now.

Option 2 would be to have a custom cutting board made that fits in that area to hide it.

My boat is only a 28' but I ripped out a cabinet and installed a microwave/pizza oven in its place. To fit this, I removed the princess cook top and was left with a big hole. I went to home depot's web site and found a huge cutting board and it fits over nicely. I also have access to a ton of storage space below if I pull the cutting board away.

When I did this install and the A/C, it was obvious that the guts were installed before the top half of the boat was attached. Redoing the countertops in my small boat would not be impossible, but not something I would eagerly jump to complete. Thank God the people who ordered my boat picked blue over pink!

if you had not glued it an installer familiar with the product probably could have fixed it. Does it look like any of the products in the home stores? Ram sport may know what brand it is.

Carver uses Karadon, which is a Canadian brand of solid surface. Anyone that can repair Corian can repair Karadon with no visible evidence. We do not do it ourselves, but sub it out. You may need to get the repair material from Carver as they use "patterns" that are specific to Carver. I hope this helps. Also, id you cannot get Galati to get the repair materials for you...shoot me a PM and I'll see if we can help you.
