I have Mercathode. What is it ?

Didn't even know it was there until I dropped the electrical panel a few years ago.
It provides electrolysis on everything in contact with the water ?
My boat is out right now and there is a bar, held with two bolts below the swim deck, under water. Looks like a BIG zink anode, when does it need serviced ? It looks ok, it is not all pitted, looks to be 90% there.
Fresh water, V drives.
 
A me3rcathode is mercs system to reduce electrolysis. A large zinc anode may have been added to increase it's effectiveness.
 
Guess it's a stand alone add on. I'm powered with Crusaders.
