Hi George, you are correct, I was supposed to be taking the boat to Florida this fall. We had two marinas picked out, the route, budget all locked down but it wasn't enough. Quite a few things had to work out to make this happen. Oddly enough the things I was concerned about worked out fine while others things became more and more troublesome. In short, I helped start a company last fall and while the company is doing great I would have to take off quite a bit of time in Oct, Dec and May to do the trip. That wasn't too much of a problem but when I agreed to attend a wedding in Brazil in November and realized my son's college graduation would have me in Chicago in May the amount of time off was just too much.
The other important factor is directly related to our conversations with Pascal and others about the trip. After looking at the trip this spring I realized I really wanted the option to take my time on the way down and back -- instead of planning a 4-6 day trip I would think more along the lines of a 5-10 day trip down (to Georgia).
I'm not going this year but I'm also not giving up. I hope next year to pull this off. I'm also thinking about some alternative, creative ways of moving the boat south like doing 2-3 days and flying back for a month or two then fly back to continue the trip. This would be less disruptive to work and allow me to plan/execute just a couple of days at a time.
Cross my fingers for next year, still want to make this happen.
Tim
