I give up on this season, the admiral has some friends coming from out of state that I hope we can take on a foliage ride as promised, otherwise...screw it...the river is up....again and full of junk... again, every time we think it`s good for a ride...it clouds up and rains. The last good ride we had was the friday nite before Irene , we went north for dinner and had a great moonlit ride back, then I spent two hours securing the boat.... I miss last season...

We have the same issues on the Hudson, the water has been crap since August 28. We hope to idle out to our nearby cove and spend the weekend there. The weather is finally supposed to be beautiful.

We'll stay in and stay on the boat until the end of the month.

Still hanging in there. This weekend's s'posed to be awesome - it's what the last three weeks should have been... I've got another month, barring a Northeaster.

Well, o.k. weather looks good enough for a last run, going to Greenport to make it to a couple wineries cuz the admiral says so.

This weekend is looking excellent. In the 70's on the shore in RI. Heading to Newport for the last hurrah and Ocktoberfest... Then it's layup time...

No question I should have a trip locked and loaded, but, it aint gonna happen. I'll be down at the boat pulling stuff out and getting ready for winter maintenance, very sad. Never got out in September either.

Hope everyone has a great weekend out, there's only a handful left.

Well....that didn`t work out so well. The plan was in place, had a slip at Mitchells, boat was stocked back up from its month long hibernation, we even got an earlier start on Sat........and I hit a log just south of Essex and took out the starboard prop....after a small hissy fit I idled back up the stupid river on 1 engine and we enjoyed a cookout and sleep over at the dock....next year has got to be better.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Narragansett Bay was about the nicest I've ever seen. Mid 80's even in Newport all weekend long. Stunning weather. Actually makes it hard to start winterizing next weekend...

Hey Tim, I thought you were taking the boat to Florida this year. What happened with that?

Hi George, you are correct, I was supposed to be taking the boat to Florida this fall. We had two marinas picked out, the route, budget all locked down but it wasn't enough. Quite a few things had to work out to make this happen. Oddly enough the things I was concerned about worked out fine while others things became more and more troublesome. In short, I helped start a company last fall and while the company is doing great I would have to take off quite a bit of time in Oct, Dec and May to do the trip. That wasn't too much of a problem but when I agreed to attend a wedding in Brazil in November and realized my son's college graduation would have me in Chicago in May the amount of time off was just too much.

The other important factor is directly related to our conversations with Pascal and others about the trip. After looking at the trip this spring I realized I really wanted the option to take my time on the way down and back -- instead of planning a 4-6 day trip I would think more along the lines of a 5-10 day trip down (to Georgia).

I'm not going this year but I'm also not giving up. I hope next year to pull this off. I'm also thinking about some alternative, creative ways of moving the boat south like doing 2-3 days and flying back for a month or two then fly back to continue the trip. This would be less disruptive to work and allow me to plan/execute just a couple of days at a time.

Cross my fingers for next year, still want to make this happen.

Tim

If you're pressed for time your latter plan is a really good way to go. You'll get to stop and smell the roses a bit and learn more about the various areas along the way. In my opinion, the most interesting cruising grounds are before you get to Florida. Skip the boring stuff, gunk hole and take side trips in the cool areas. Once to Florida, go out St. Mary's, hang a right, then another right at Port Everglades is fine with me if you had the range.. unless you are going to take a side trip on the St.Johns.. or, better yet, find out what suits you the first time down.
