Hope everyone is making out ok with this storm we're having. We've been ok so far but I'm concerned about the wind taking some of the pine tree branches and landing on our shrink wrapped boat! Already lost one big branch but it landed in the neighbor's yard. Don, aren't you in the water year round? I know someone in this group is.

I'm disappointed, I was hoping we'd get a few inches of snow at least. Went outside earlier and shoveled the slush off my driveway. Went back 20 minutes later and freezing rain had started and it was like an ice rink so put ice melt on it. Now there's a light dusting of snow on it. Last I checked my car door was frozen shut, might have to clean the garage a little more and put it inside tonight.

Yup I am also in the water and my ice eater has been on for the last week or so. In fact my whole basin is a big bubbler. I pray for no black outs. A major freeze up in our basin would not be good.

Good thing I did, looks like a power line came down by the LIRR tracks near Wantagh causing all sorts of delays. I'll see what things look like in the morning before deciding to head in or not.

Barb.....Im in the water year round....... my ice eater has been going all week......canal frozen solid except under my boat.
Brad......RELAX.....you'll be fine....this is nothing. Just remember if you loose power.....fire up your genny and use it to run the ice eater. ( bet you don't do this again next winter )

Thats where I want to be in sub-zero weather, on my boat with the Genny running and the heat on.
Then dealing with winterizing the, again! Yikes. I like being on the hard. For $500, its well worth it!

Yeah.......You will need to re-winterize it again. If we loose power for any serious length of time...and you don't have a portable generator to run the ice eater.....you don't have a choice. You don't want your boat to freeze in !!!
All the years I left my boat in......I never needed to fire up the genny...............yet

I have had a great amount of enjoyment this season going to the boat and just hanging when the sun is coming though. It was comfortable in the cockpit even in the low 20’s. I have a couple caframo heaters just to take the edge off. Even my wife liked hanging for a “short time” reading a magazine, she would then wonder back to the clubhouse.
A couple of beers, with music on, peaceful on the dock, seagulls /ducks flying around……. priceless.
During a Saturday or Sunday when the club is having a function, I have had a group of friends on my boat instead of in the clubhouse. Its funny how that works, an open boat is like a magnet. But when the sun goes down we run for cover to the clubhouse with a fireplace and bar food.
Would I stay in again… yes sir!! I may say different if we have a long term freeze with damage. Running the genny may not be an option as Walter and Dave pointed out , but with 30 other boats in the water and some owners having some pull, I am sure we would be on a priority list for a quick LIPA repair…. I would hope!!

To winterize the genny with the proper setup should not take more than 15 minutes and a gallon of antifreeze. If you have an internal sea strainer get the cover with the hose fitting on it or have someone modify you existing cover.

John, good thing you stayed home. I was sitting on the 3:46 waiting to head home. At 3:50 they announced no service east of Wantagh. At 3:55 train cancled. Minutes later the 4:04 dissapears from the board. Announcement made no service on Babylon branch. At this point I follow my golden rule... Get outa dodge (Penn) I jump on a Long Beach train & get off at Jamaica. Around 5pm a packed train pulls in but I make it on & get to Amityville at 6pm. Not bad, only 3 hours.

Those of you wishing they had seen some snow...???....Come up here and you'll wish you'd never see the stuff again. I'm at the Western end of Oneida Lake and a little north and it's been snowing and blowing here NON-STOP for over a week now. I wish I was more adept at posting pics here so you could REALLY get an idea of what I'm talking about. Imagine this.....I have a deck on the front of my house that's about 3/4's the length of the front....and extends out about 15 feet .... When I shoveled my roof for the second time, There wasn't any place to put the snow.....so on the deck it went....me like the Idiot I am sometimes figured it would stop in a day or two and then I could chip away at getting it off the deck into the yard and all would be well. Well it hasn't stopped snowing yet ( lat shoveled the roof last Friday ) and now the snow is so deep that ya can't see out of the windows in the front of the house that are over the deck. It is SERIOUSLY 3/4's the height of the windows now and they say we're going to get another 12-18 inches today. And last but not least I'm now in fear of my UN-attached Garage Roof caving in from all the snow. Problem is I'm getting to old and out of shape to do it and the cheapest I can get anybody to do it for is $1000.00.
