I'd Like a Better Canvas Idea

That top and camper-back look fabulous...that would work great for me. I was really considering the hard-top route but I think that would be just beyond my comfortable spend this year. I like how the radar arch is incorporated allowing the arch lighting (and speakers) to be used under cover. Would you mind me asking what that canvas set you back? Also, I like the Montego emblem on the side of the arch. Where did you get that one?

Just an FYI, Bob's previous Montego and my previous Montego are one in the same.

I'd also recommend that now is the time to change canvas color if there ever was one. A Montego with burgundy stripes and a neutral color like black or charcoal or light grey would still look great and really update the look.

You mentioned in another post that you were debating removing the striping on the lower portion of the hull as well, I'd go with a black and grey or black and silver stripe to really update the boat more and it will still go with the burghandy upper striped just below the rub rail. My uncle did the same with his 88 Montego and nobody even noticed the burg stripe anymore! Very cheap for the striping too, about $150 and an hour or two.
 
Bob/Jim...it's all starting to make sense now! I hadn't thought about having a color other than burgundy...might look really nice. I liked the striping idea...the one below the burgundy stripe. I know it is from the other post, but, what do you think I should do for the stripe near the water line...same thing?

I meant the waterline, I should have clarified. I think I'd just ake the "middle" stripe off completely if it's removable.
 
Tan canvas, tan stripe near the bottom of the burgundy gel coat, burgundy and tan stripe at water line?

The first time I had in made it was approx $5500. That included all new stainless pipe as the original Bimini was like yours, it went under and I had no camper top at all. So everything was from scratch. Then I made a new top as my old one was 7 years old. You will definitely enjoy all the room with this set up.

The Carver emblems were purchase from the manufacture and the Montego sign I created and had the sign company who made Starry Night for me.

I really like the top on your former boat. If you can recall, how did you deal with the side windshield glass running behind the arch? I can see where the canvas on the front section flares out, and is attached to the front of the arch, above the windshield, but can't tell what the set-up is at the glass area, if any? We get a lot of water here, running behind the lower section of the arch, which then tries to find it's way out thru the arch weep hole at the bottom, outside, or just continues past, and drips/runs into the cockpit, and onto the carpet. I'd like to improve this somehow.

And did you use 7/8 or 1 inch tubing for your frame?

I think the Charcoal grey would look great with the burg. stripe. Of course bring the canvas back to the arch and then even instead of a camper have the aft drop curtain come off the arch as well, it should give a bit more clearance than it currently does.

Thanks for the numbers. I didn't think about the need to redo all of the framing...figured it would just need to be adjusted up front. Nice design on the Montego graphic, too! Is that something that could be reproduced?
 
I took a look at the striping around the waterline...they're in pretty bad shape and need to be replaced anyway.

I have not quite figured out how to do the "quote" thing so I can reply to posts properly...but I'll try and figure it out. I liked the photo-shopped image of the canvas in a contrasting color...pretty cool idea. I went out in 15 degree weather just to start pulling some of the graphics off of the boat. I used my eraiser and starting removing the fractured "32" and "Carver" decals. Looks ugly right now, but, when I begin removing glue, wet sanding, using rubbing compound and then polishing, I'm sure it will look better. I think I will take off the stripes below the gelcoat burgundy stripe. I'll replace stripes at the waterline.
