Today here in Massachusetts it is toooo hot. So Wifey and I made for the boat. Last weekend I ripped out the old flooring, hopefully I will have the new stuff down.

I was preparing Elegance for installation when I started questioning myself about how 1 1/2 inch hose connects. The tail pice which has a 1" discharge hole has a body about 1 1/2 inches. Does 1 1/2" hose slide over this piece so that the waste flow is limited by the one inch hole? Yes, it is a simple question but I don't want to spin my poop line.

I do not have a piece of hose to try, I just want to be sure I have all that is needed to get the toilet functioning.

General comment: I CERTAINLY HOPE THERE ARE NO DISAPPOINTMENTS! Wifey's girl friend almost climed the wall when she saw how elegant the Elegance is. It so far at least (I don't have it connected yet) it is a thing of GREAT BEAUTY!

Foggy - I connected my 1.5" line over the wider portion of that piece, even though technically that piece does restrict the flow to 1". I'll also tell you that connection leaked on me until I put a little sealant around the piece, slid the hose in and double clamped it. Nothing else worked for me, and I think the main problem is the piece is so darn smooth, I wish it was jagged like the PVC elbow connectors I used elsewhere which were very easy to seal. So after making the connection make sure you test thoroughly for leaks before putting the toilet in service.

Thanks Veg!!! Your shared experience is about to save me some work. I will put some pipe compound on it along with double clamps. My goal is to get everything done pertaining to the new toilet this week.

More later and thanks again--

Foggy, simple answer to your question is "yes" the tail piece is only 1 inch. But, trust me that is plenty and, used normally, it will not clog. I even had a young lady put a tampon down it and it chewed it up and passed it through without a problem. (I don't recommend doing that very often though)

For 2 1/2 years my ME has been flawless.

It is made to discharge with either 1.5" or 1" hose....and if you have never looked behind the Raritan Atlantes, with an internal vented loop....its made of 1" pvc....

Same here Bob, I use 1" from the ME to an adapter (above the holding tank) that feeds my holding tanks 1.5" inlet.

Another hot day here in Massachusetts and a stinky day at that!

I have the linoleum ripped up from the bathroom where I will install my new Elegance. The plumbing had to be changed and that was some fun and when one is have a GREAT time, it is just too good to finish things with one swallow! A few years ago I plumbed all the waste lines with PVC pipe..........it just does not stink! Of course dealing with the contents is another matter.

I crawled into the bilge on my belly as a reptile would. I feared nothing for I was armed with my faithful Milwaukee Sawzall, that had all the teeth I needed. I grabbed my 1 1/2 PVC discharge pipe, placed the Sawzall's blade on it and put its teeth to work...and it did .... in a hurry. I was deluged with dark..not grey.. water! It sprayed all over the place. The bilge area nearest the cut pipe took the brunt of it. Now the bilge pump did its thing. IT FAILED! Nice time to learn it needed a good cleaning which it got as I worked my way though the yuk.

OK, I got myself back together not. The bilge is pristine, the tools are put away and I have a shinny new 1 1/2" PVC ball valve separating the discharge line to the holding tank and the other head/toilet. AND THAT VALVE IS CLOSED! Tomorrow I will move forward by drilling where the plumbing will pass through the floor, locate the placement for the Elegance and attack installing the new linoleum. The remaining plumbing work will be a piece of cake.

OH, forgot to mention that I also purchased a couple of feet of 1" discharge hose to attach to the toilet. I think this will be the easiest way for me to connect the toilet to the main discharge line. I have all the piece parts so this should go without problems but I have said that before doing other tasks.

More later--

I remember the 1st time I replaced my transfer pump to my PuraSan and ended up well covered in popp water and I had the the crap out of my fingers and hands removing old stainless hose clamps. Unlike you my bilge pump worked but I quickly got a freshwater hose from the dock and sprayed the entire bilge over and over until it was free of the blackwater. Then I took a rag and some Bleach and wiped everything down including the cuts in my hands (I forgot about them as the Bleach leached inbto them)! Now I have a 1.5" PVC valve at the holding tank and also the Purasan inlet so not much can backfeed and the tank can no longer empty itself when doing any blackwater discharge work.
Sounds like the worst of it is behind you Foggy.

Yeah, I do believe the worst is behind me Bill. I did not have any bleach on board but I did have ammonia. I used a 1/2 gallon of it washing things down with a hose. I have come to love 1 1/2" PVC ball valves!

The dirty deed is completed! And dirty it was as all can imagine. Cut fingers, scrapped arms, twisted muscles, bruises, curses directed at nobody..... the Elegance is installed! Most of the boat is picked up, things back in place although I still have a few things to do such as installing some new base boards at the wall bottoms. The base boards are needed because I installed new linoleum flooring as part of the Wifey's renovation project.

Performance! I find the toilet discharges just as advertised. The discharge water is prompt and effective. My initial appraisal is the toilet---head for those who prefer, is an outstanding design. It represent engineering that was done to maximize bank for the buck. Now time will certainly test that design.

Thanks all for providing suggestions, help, patience and of course guidance.

Foggy I am glad to hear the ME head met your expectations. I have 4 plus 8-9 month seasons of heavy use and I haven't replaced anything on the unit. I have new jokers but haven't installed them because they are not needed yet.
The real question is what does your wife (the Admiral) think about the unit?

Bill--

Wifey is in AWE of her rejuvenated bathroom!!!! It will certainly be the focus of future show and tells with her many friends! The Elegance sits right against the wall highly resembling what one would find in a home.

Replies to my earlier thread here in the forum where I searched for suggestions pertaining to toilet choices got excellent feedback!!! I most likely would have gone with the Sea Era prior to reading those many responses. I was aware of the Elegance from reading about it several years ago. However, I was not aware that Raritan now offered 4 versions of their product, straight vs slant backs in both 12 and 15" heights.

I would really have kicked myself had I installed the Sea Era instead. Sure, the Sea Era is a fine toilet although it lacks the WOW factors the Elegance enjoys!

Glad it all worked out!
