We are looking to buy an inflatable boat (dinghy) with a 2.5 hp outboard motor. Do you or anyone you know selling a second hand? What model, year and for how much?

FYI
I believe the 2.5 hp Merc has fwd only and no neutral gear.
 
Mark...... thats right. Its a bit tricky to get it started......and turn the motor 180 degrees..(and remember to have it locked).....to back down.
 
WE will only use the dink to transport people from boat to shore when we are anchored out in the cove or bay and that's the only reason why we even thought of getting the smallest motor possible. Thanks for mentioning it....I guess we'll have to come up with something else. What do you guys recommend?

I've had a Nissan 2.5 that's over 25 years old. No neutral..........only go! But since it's only 2.5 you don't have to worry about going anywhere fast when it starts.
 
We had a soft bottom inflatable with a 2.5hp Merc... a few seasons ago .....another thing I didn't care for....was when you rotated the motor 180 degrees to back down....now the prop is under the inflatable...only inches from the inflatable floor ( not all that sturdy ). We traded it in for a new Merc 5hp...with forward....neutral...and reverse. Also went to a RIB for a more solid ride.

I sold my dink last year, now I need one again too.
I just hated this thing on the boat, took up too much room with the engine, gas, oil, and dink.
Maybe i don't need a engine, is rowing that bad? I have a kayak that I carry on the boat, wonder if dog will sit on a kayak!
 
I bought the merc 3.3 that has fwd and neutral. Brand new it was less than $100 more than the 2.5.

I use it on a roll-up. Not as convenient as a davit but this setup works well for me as it stows nicely under my aft deck and out of the way.
 
i have 3.3 merc (4 years old), it has neutral. no reverse is no problem but i wanted neutral. you probably don't need anything bigger on a small roll up but it's amazing how much you cna push with that little thing. I've had it on my 14' hard dink with 7 adults on board and it had plenty of power to push the load. heck right now i even have it rigged with remote steering !
 
In todays Newsday classified:

1997 Zeppelin inflatable 8'9" dingy...ridgid hull....with oars, seat,and pump....never patched..$650.00. 631-495-0681

It is important to remember that buying a used inflatable can be a risky venture. How it was cared for and stored play a huge part in the boats survival. Appearances usually only tell part of the history. Almost every inflatable that I have owned (4) leaked more or less with age.
I reccommend buying new if you can.

I searched for inflatable and I found a blow-up doll that Walter was selling, too bad it was popped!
