For something different this summer, I was thinking about taking a week to try some upstate NY lake boating; probably camping, or maybe a reasonably priced (hopefully under 200 per night) waterfront rental or hotel. I don't want to spend too much time in the car, so I was considering Oswego, Seneca or Cayuga Lake, or maybe Adirondacks - Scandaga, etc. Champlain is probably further than I want to go.

Just looking at a map, there are so many options that I'm not sure where to start. Anybody have any boating experience in these parts that they would like to share? Looking for places we can anchor/beach for swimming, waterfront restaurants are a nice plus, water skiing, tubing, all the usual stuff - not big on fishing though.

Coming from Philadelphia Area, towing a 23 foot bowrider that cruises around 30mph, and draws about 2 feet.

thanks.

I love Lake George, NY, an hour north of Albany.

Used to rent a house every year when I had a trailer boat.

Great water, fun place.

thanks. I'll look into Lake George. At 300 miles from home, it's at about the edge of how far I'd like to trailer. Got this whole idea when we were at Lake Placid over the winter. Love that area, but was leaning towards Finger Lakes or Oswego in order to avoid the Jersey Turnpike & Garden State Parkway. It took us ten hours to get home from Lake Placid due to traffic. Just dont hear many people talk about the boating in central/western part of the state.

Champlain is very nice. Also check out the Finger Lakes.

Lake George will have the best variety of places to stay.
Either hotel/motel with a dock, or a campsite on an island.
(Check reserve america for campsite availabilty.)
Great Escape theme park is only a few miles away as well,
and there's a lot going on in LG village this time of year.
Good Luck.
