Pros & cons of each?

Travelling with dog and boys 16 - 19.

I think the boys will enjoy Baltimore more than Annapolis. Baltimore has the National Aquarium, a Hard Rock Cafe, lots of sites within walking distance, Little Italy, a bunch of activity. Annapolis is mostly shops, bars and resturants. Great for adults (we love it)ebut I'm think the teenagers may find in boring after a few hours.

The Inner Harbor comes alive at night. In fact when the four of us were walking along the wall around the harbor at the far end where people dock near the crowd, about 4 guys yelled up from their boat "Hey mommie, not to old to be gettin down!". It's a city so watch yourself. It gets crowded and noisey at night but there were plenty of police around. Given some of the stuff to look at, it could be worth a couple of nights. During the day it was ok.
We visited the submarine and coast guard cutter that are tied up and both were great tours. I think there are four boats to look at but we only had time for two. Being around boats so much perhaps your kids would enjoy this? There is a tall building there which allows folks up top to look around the whole harbor, and the aquarium was good also.

Don't forget, at the Inner Harbor, you can always walk a few blocks to Camden Yards to see the Orioles beat the Yankees. ;)

Teenage boys; Baltimore, Inner Harbor, Marina by the Science Center, sorry I can't remember the name of it!

Mike, if you go to Baltimore by car, check out the NSA Cryptography Museum at Ft. Meade.

Now that sounds interesting...:D Just sayin'

Thanks for all the info, guys. Any recommendation on which marina to stay at?

Orioles are out of town when we'll be there.

We were driving North and stopped in to visit friends so we did not check out the marinas. I believe a ferry service runs from the marinas that are a little further out but I have no idea what the cost is and when they start/stop.

The 2 closest marinas are the Inner harbor East Marina which is closer to HardRock, Aquarium, Power plant, movie theatre and has plenty of restaurants nearby, Little Italy, Fells Point etc.
The second is Baltimore Inner harbor marine center. That is closer to the Science center,Federal Hill, Great Restaurant Rusty Scupper on site)Camden Yards.

Neither has a pool. There is also city dock which is just past the Balt. Inner harbor marine center and is in the middle of both marinas. Not a real fan of that it is not secure. The others are gated and good facilities.

Inner Harbor East has been under construction for a couple of yrs. Not sure where it stands now. We still like to stay there. The better view of the city at night would be Balt. Inner Harbor Marine ctr. Either way you cant go wrong..

There are a few other nice marinas but all are a long walk to the attractions

Just a correction to the above postings. The marina at the Rusty Scupper is called Inner Harbor Marina, not to be confused with Baltimore Marine Center (same owners). The BMC is located a distance away in Canton. The Inner Harbor East marina is the one under construction near the Aquarium

I love the inner harbor. When we went, we tied up at the public dock. I think it was $5 or something for the night, and we had power to boot. Baltimore is a lot of fun. Enjoy the trip. Should be two to three days for you from Stony Point, depending on how long and fast you run.

FYI: Inner Harbor East Marina is starting to move into their permanent offices this week. It will probably be a week or so more until all the furniture is delivered. The facilities are on the ground floor of the new Legg Mason tower.

Plexi,
If you google Baltimore inner harbor marine center you will see that it is indeed the old Inner Harbor Marina. It changed names a while back. Most people still refer to it as the Inner Harbor Marina but it is actually BIHMC.

I second Inner Harbor East. The location can't be beat. It's within walking distance to:

-National Aquarium
-Harbor Place (shops and food)
-Little Italy
-USCG Taney (retired cutter open for tours)
-USS Torsk - (retired submarine open for tours)

The water taxi will get you to the Science Center. And then there's my favorite that's only a block away; Roy's Restaurant. James Joyce Pub is nice too for "pub grub". As is Taco Fiesta for affordable Mexican.

And besides, Wes will be there to help you out if you need it :-)

Thanks Kurt!

It seems anymore I'm always there. Anyway, we had a big day today moving all our junk over to the new digs. Got the flat screen figured out and played with the fireplace. We have to vacate the trailers asap (Thank God!) so they can start removing them. We'll slowly figure out what we can keep and what goes to the dump. The heads and showers are beautiful though...we couldn't be happier. Next time you stop over I'll buy you a drink.

Does Inner Harbor East have a website? If not, what is contact info?

It's beginning to sound like the Inner Harbor is a better stop then Annapolis. I think we may switch. The wife really wants to see the Naval Museum but I figure we can rent a car or take a cab from Herrington Harbour South for a quick visit to the museum.

That's what I've been saying all along - when will you guys start listening to me?

We can all dress in white sailor suits and march back and forth on the dock, singing "Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum" - that should satisfy Pattie.
