is everyone up for 6.00$ a gal marine fuel this summer?that will only cost me 600 to fill!if it stops there.

At that price it would cost me 2400 to fill up. You ask am I up for this, no do I have a choice no. I'm not going to stop boating over a couple a thousand dollars additional cost per year. I get much to much enjoyment for boating to give it up, I think this sucks and I wish there was something we could do to slow down the price increases but until we start drilling off shore again we have to deal with it.

I am looking at the offset from the incredible deals to be found on dock rates in our area. Marinas advertising $14 per foot two years ago are leasing at $9 per foot and waiving dock fees, etc. It's practically a ghost town around here. Three years ago most marinas in our area had wait lists up to 3 months. Today, they sit at around 50% occupied. Now private owner slips in Marina Associations are going for as little as $7 +/- per foot.

Example: Riviera Dunes - Palmetto, FL (privately owned 55' slip in highly desirable marina)

Pre-economic mayhem ($14 per foot) = $770 per month
Today ($7.27 per foot) = $400 per month plus one month free if you pay the year up front.

$370 per month still buys a good deal of diesel and more than offsets the periodic fuel price increases like we see now and we all experienced in 2008.

Of course, if you trailer your boat; I feel for you.

I don't see it getting any where near that. For reasons not the least of which is the fact we are getting real close to being in full blown election/campaigning status. No matter how badly Obama wants to raise fuel prices his own folks will be turning on him soon to do something to lower them. That combined with consumers unwilling or unable to pay more than around 4.00 - 4.50 a gallon. Marinas might try to get their fuel up to 5 a gallon but even then when it starts sitting in the tank for long they will come back down.

I hope you're right John but I don't think Obama or politics has much to do with it. Even so, today's prices are scary enough. I burn 2-3 gal/hr, the numbers you guys are posting makes me glad I don't own a Sea Ray.

I think those numbers will not last too long for one reason, the economy will tank if energy prices stay at that level too long, so demand will drop and along with it price. High fuel costs in 2008 preceeded the sub prime crisis and helped push the economy over the edge, we still haven't fully recovered from that recession and super high fuel costs will make it even harder. Consumer prices will rise with the rise in fuel costs, and discressionary spending will tail off. Glad I filled up last fall at the "cheap" prices.
