I just had a scare. I called my insurance company and asked for a 30-day endorsement for the Bahamas. I expected a reply about something to sign and a $75 fee. What I didn't expect was that they want to limit it to a maximum of 14 days. Furthermore, it's quite possible the endorsement won't even be available come next year. It seems the risk on loss is going up and up (I was told "repairs are very over-priced" as opposed to anything to do with losses). Thankfully, I've got a good agent and I got 30 days as requested. But what about next year? Has anyone else had any problems getting an endorsement for the Bahamas?

Hmmm, haven't heard that one. But then again, I haven't called for the trip this year yet.

By the way Kurt, I will be leaving for the Bahamas on 6/15. For, probably, 6 weeks. Will you still be there then?

Dang, Bob, no. We just have May to do it. We will haul the boat down your way starting this coming Sunday and most likely arrive in Ft. Pierce on Monday. Then we'll be back home by Memorial Day weekend. 6 weeks sounds darn good. We'll be lucky to get half of that. How's everything running? Are the Yanmar's doing well? So far, so good for most systems on my boat (I doubled my house bank and did a stupid thing and fried my battery monitor which I'll replace tomorrow). I'm waiting 'til FL to test the watermaker. I just don't want to put any of this crap we call water up here in MD through it. Throwing the switch does turn the pump on, so hopefully that'll work (but better to find out in FL than over there!).

Bob, we will be in the Abacos from June 20 through July 4. We are taking the boat to Myrtle Beach over Memorial Weekend and then head to FL and on to the Bahamas June 16. The last few years we have done a second trip to the Bahamas in late July/early August.

Kurt, have a nice trip! I have been doing the same, going through lots of systems and preparations for the run south. We are really looking forward to the trip this year as we did not do our usual week and a half Christmas ski trip. By the way, Anchorage Marina has been great. 15 minutes closer than middle river and lots of things to do in the area. We bought two folding aluminum bikes from WM and use them a lot on the boardwalk and local area.

Good Rick, I'm glad it's working out for you. There's a green trawler there with you who we've met before. We passed him last May just south of Vero Beach on the ICW and he hailed us as our boat rather stands out. I can't remember his name, but he's a very nice guy.

Christmas ski trip? Where do you ski? We have a place at Blue Knob. Usually we make it up every weekend, but this year with all the snow, we missed quite a few. Imagine that, too much snow to ski!

Saturday we load the boat on the trailer and head south on Sunday (we should arrive in Ft. Pierce on Monday morning).

Kurt, my brother lives in Lake tahoe near Truckee and Squaw valley so we usually try to ski there every year and do a longer Christmas trip there every other year. Over the last few years we have also gone to Jackson Hole, Whistler Blackcomb a few times, and Snowbird for our Christmas trip. Before that we went to Colorado a lot cause we were in Austin TX for 6 years. We don't ski too much locally but this year we did go three times as the snow was fabulous.

Are you crossing from Ft Pierce or are you going further south?

Rick,

I refuse to ski out west (I don't want to get spoiled!). Our "mountain" is 3 hours away near Altoona, PA. It's got a 1,200ft vertical, and most importantly, it's quite affordable. We try to go every weekend.

I'm not sure where we'll leave from. We do put the boat in the water at Ft. Pierce, but then we head down the ICW until a weather window opens. Last year we left from Palm Beach. If the weather down there every changes, we're going to try and make the Exumas this year, so we'd like to cross from further south and get to Bimini. But if we're in Stuart or Palm and there's a window, we might just have to jump over to West End again. Who knows.

Bob you're killin' me!!

I'm wishing we sold the NY condo (home) a couple of years ago. We'd be down here all year for sure.
