1978 mercruiser 260 hp how do I know which interuptor switch I need I understand the old switch needs to be replaced with new shift plate and switch but which one

Are you sure the switch itself is bad? using a meter it will red open, no continuity until depressed, then will read short , continuity
The switch grounds out the ign coil to aid in coming OUT of gear only .To use the new style switch you need to connect 12v to one side of the switch and the other side to the pos side of the coil to interupt the 12 volts
The new one is a normally closed switch vs the normally open old style

I found the old switch probably the only one left in existence. the new one required me to change my trim pump thanks for your help

well I installed the new interuptor switch same problem evry time I goto neutral it dies I have made all the adjustments to cables if I try to bend the arm on the switch very slightly then it wont shift to neutral wondering if you guys think it could be a weak coil since the switch interrupts the coil maybe its to weak to come back any thoughts will be appriciated

ok I had the cable replaced everytime I go to neutral it dies any ideas will be appreciated
