I was able to get my boat released early for pre-season maintenance items.

My plan was to replace the gimbal bearing prior to having the bellows replaced. I've got the Merc special tools and after getting the puller in place and applying horendous amounts of torque the only thing I have to show for this is a broken puller jaw.

I heated the area around the bearing and tapped the puller shaft as per instruction...still in there. The bearing appears clean with no rust whatsoever.

My next step will be to grab the seating mandrel and smack the bearing a few times and try to repeat the process.

Failing all of this...I'll pay the extra $$ and let the shop deal with it...but it would be nice to save a few bucks...!

Any ideas from those who have done this?
