...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM FRIDAY TO 7 AM EST
SATURDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBANY HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM FRIDAY TO 7 AM EST
SATURDAY FOR THE SOUTHERN CATSKILLS...MID HUDSON VALLEY SOUTH OF
KINGSTON...AND NORTHWEST CONNECTICUT.

A STORM IN EASTERN TEXAS...WILL MOVE NORTHEAST THROUGH THE
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY...AND INTO THE MID ATLANTIC STATES BY FRIDAY.
THIS STORM WILL BRING A SWATH OF HEAVY SNOW...MIXED WITH SLEET...TO
THE WARNING AREAS.

SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD THE REGION AROUND OR SHORTLY BEFORE DAYBREAK ON
FRIDAY. SNOW...FALLING AT RATES OF HALF AN INCH TO AN INCH PER HOUR
WILL ACCUMULATE THROUGHOUT MUCH OF THE DAY. AS WARMER AIR TRIES TO
MOVE IN ALOFT...SOME SLEET WILL MIX IN DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON
AND EVENING HOURS. THIS WILL CUTBACK ON ACCUMULATION RATES DURING
THE NIGHT...BUT KEEP UNTREATED SURFACES VERY SLIPPERY.

FIVE TO TEN INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED ONCE THE SNOW AND SLEET WINDS
DOWN LATE FRIDAY NIGHT OR SATURDAY MORNING. SOME AREAS MIGHT
LOCALLY PICK UP A FOOT OR MORE.

A LITTLE MORE SNOW MIGHT LINGER ON SATURDAY...BUT IT WILL BE LIGHT
AND NOT ADD MUCH MORE ACCUMULATION.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...
SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL
VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

What the heck is SWATH?

A swath is a member of the swat team what swishes?

LOL! A "swath", in weather parlance, is simply a region containing a type of weather, advanced over time. So a "swath" of heavy snow would be shown on a map as an elongated corridor of white (the color of choice!), usually somewhat narrow at the beginning where the storm was developing, then widening as the storm moves northeastward in the ensuing few days. The width of the "swath" over our area will probably stretch from the NYC area north and west through Bradford PA and Oneonta NY...

Guys, relax, in a couple of months, I'll take control of the weather once again and we will have another gorgeous summer.

Mike;

I'm a believer. You take your time, sit back and enjoy a little more winter. When you feel real rested, give it hell.

Anytime now Mike. Butch did you pull the cover this weekend? Another 3-7 on top of the cap we already have.
Earlier in the month I was thinking we were going to get off without a spring flood. Now with all the snow I have to wonder what's going to happen. The Ashokan is at the action stage, and the Rondout is climbing. If we get hit with some warm weather and a hefty rain storm we could be in for it again...

The snow around my house is completely melted. I haven't had a chance to take the kids sleigh riding so I welcome another storm. Too bad it's a leap year, we normally skip this day and there wouldn't have been a storm!

I don't know about you but since I am salaried, I laid back today. No sense giving 'em a freebee. They already get enough of those.

"Too bad it's a leap year, we normally skip this day and there wouldn't have been a storm!"

LOL, Chris, that's a helluva scientific statement...
