Has anyone rebuilt the macerator/fresh water pump using repair kit #37040? I have determined that he seal between the fresh water impeller and the waste side us leaking through. Anything I should know to make this easier?

We have a different model, #37045, but I tried a partial rebuild once. Turned out I didn't replace one of the optional seals, so the rebuild didn't "take" (so to speak). Also, our macerator was no longer "Quiet" and while the partial rebuild helped a little, it wasn't optimum. Shortly afterwards, I simply replaced the whole pump/motor assembly... and that was much easier, faster, less messy, and I decided I should have done that in the first place. The original was in the neighborhood of 9-10 years old, at the time...

FWIW, I think I put up a description of the whole process on the owners club forum.

You could do all that, and then find shortly after that the motor fries. Now you're into a noisy old head that doesn't work well for $150+ and several unpleasant hours of work. That's what happened to me. I cut my losses, bought a new, quieter and much less troublesome head for $500 or so, and sold the new Jabsco motor I'd just bought for half what I'd paid for it.

There are better heads out there and head problems are not what you want to deal with on a day of boating. 5 years on, I can still visualize bits of TP spinning round and round on the macerator because the thing didn't have the power to suck them through. Or see dirty water trickling out of the rim because waste had leaked back through to the inlet side. Ugh.

Needless to say, my rebuild with the kit was less than 100% successful.

I just think it's a lousy design. For one thing any restriction in the water inlet hose (in my case it would kink in one spot occasionally) leads to suction that the seal between the two pump chambers can't resist. That pulls waste back into the fresh water side.

What type of head did you get that works great ?

I had a similar problem with my Jabsco The motor was burning out every other year. A month ago I finally bought an old fashioned manual head with the power stroke on the side.

After seeing the cost of the replacement motor and pump I decided to replace the entire toilet. A difference in cost of $80.00. Just an FYI...yes the system is noisy but in 16 years I only had to rebuild the pump seals once. Toilet always worked well for its intended purpose. Hopefully I will get similar results with the new one.

Like many on here, I bought a Marine Elegance. I bought it in 2009. I've pulled it out once to take it apart and clear a clog - some kind of cleaning wipe with a really fibrous texture that a family member flushed and shouldn't have. I guess it costs more now due to inflation and/or BoatFix not being in business. But it's still a decision I am really happy with.

I have had the same problem but with different results mine tore the thing apart and dumped it into the holding tank. The string attached itself to the pumps shaft causing a noisy flush. It took about a day and that problem cleared.
+1 on Raritan's ME head.
