Hey everyone, I'm trying to troubleshoot my Jabsco remote spotlight. The problem I'm having is it won't go up and down. The left to right function is working correctly. I have been able to confirm that it is NOT a motor issue, when the joystick is lifted up and down I hear the motor working however the cog from the motor does not appear to be engaging the cog that raises and lowers the light.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like a broken tooth on the gear Have you tried to push it up or down or is it an internal tilt model? If you hear it trying to move then it's not a switch or wiring issue the problem is internal.
 
Try some silicone spray or crc. Could just be crudded up.
 
Do you have power to the switch at all points. If so, the most likely culprit is a broken wire in the housing. If I were you, unless you are still on the hard, I'd let it go for the season and get a hand held until fall. The removal is not hard. Finding the itty bitty parts that fall in the drink during disassembly are a bear to find and very expensive to replace.
 
Thanks for the suggestions, I might just wait until the end of the season like David said or maybe I just pull the boat into the slip bow first and tackle it from that angle.

I already have a backup on board so either way I am not in a rush.

I ran into the same problem, even went to the point of replacing the joystick. Before shipping to factory repair service in New Bedford, MA, I spoke to one of their techs. Following his advise, I removed the bulb retainer and with a soft mallet, moved the case back and off. As he had suspected, there was a solder connection that had broken. Even if your's is not the same problem, you will be able to see if there is a problem with any of the gears. It is a 10 minute job to remove the cover.
