I have a manual Jabsco toilet and when I put the flush control lever in the fill position, the bowl won't fill with water and there doesn't seem to be much resistance when pumping. It will pump out what's in the bowl, but just won't fill it with water. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

How long have you had the problem? Could be something as simple as the seacock being closed, so the toilet can't get water. More likely you need to take the critter apart, clean it and possibly install a new "kit".

Thanks Willie. The problem just started and the seacock is open. What is this "kit"? I guess I should take the valve cover and pump cylinder apart and clean it out and replace the various O-rings and gaskets.

I've had the same issue with 2 Japsco tiolets the problem is easily solved by replacing the rubber gasket with built in weights located on the top of the pump Both toilets were about 2 years old and had litle use

Yep, agree, sounds like the rubber gasket is either torn or brittle and letting in air instead of creating a vacuum to draw in water.

Re-build kit time.

Bob

PS: Or replace it with a new Raritan Marine Elegance electric. :)

Some years ago (like 25) I had a problem with a head not picking up it's prime, problem turned out to be the packing nut where the plunger enters the pump body. If it's sucking air there it won't prime.

It was a 5-min fix, just tighten the nut a bit, and lubricate with liquid soap. I'm sure heads have changed some in the years since, but it's worth checking.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'll it apart and replace the various O-rings and gaskets.

Before you get into rebuilding the whole thing try this simple thing: Take the little white hose that draws the water off the bowl. Put your finger over the hole on the bowl and pump the handle and see if you get any resistance. If so put the hose back on and you may be good to go. This happened to mine. 'somehow it just would not prime and needed some help.
