Jones Beach Fireworks?

Grucci is doing Bayshore Marina. Captree will be running 20 boats there. I'm trying to talk the wife into going but she doesn't like night boating any more because of recent boating accidents. I can't blame her it's a little nuts out there after dark.

Anyone know if I will get any view at all of the fireworks on the GSB from the west side of the Robert Moses back as far as Lindenhurst?
I'm thinking of taking a ride out Tuesday noght, but I don't want to get too close to the crowd.

When Jones Beach had fireworks we would sit in the bay just off Amityville Beach and you could see fine but couldn't hear anything. So it's not the same but if you head east and go just east of the bridge you'll be far enough from the crowd but still able to get a good show. There are two shows July 3rd and one show July 4th after dusk. Just click the link above and you'll see you have three different shows going on east of the bridge.

Thanks! I have a BBQ to go to on the 4th, but I'll probably try to take a ride to see the show on Tuesday night. Hearing it isn't as important as seeing the show. I hope the weather is good.

At some point Grucci's website had 2 shows listed - one for Bay Shore, one for Patchogue. Then I heard the Bay Shore show was cancelled and only Patchogue was listed on the Grucci web site. I just checked again and it just says 'mid Great South Bay' and for best view go to the Captree website which brings you to info on going on their boats. Anyone know where exactly they are setting up? A couple years ago it was close to Davis Park.

I saw that. Sounds like party boats are looking for a new revenue stream. Good for them. I imagine the water between oakdale and patchogue would be best for this. West of bridge is probably too shallow and channel too wide. I imagine they have to stay out of channel.

With that said its a long ride for fireworks for my boat. I will look on land.
Was considering going o city, not by boat to see Macy's.
Never seen them.

I didn't know they cancelled Bayshore, thanks for the info. If you want to go to NYC for the show check out the Intrepid they usually have seating on deck.

Well that stinks(I had a better word) that there is no Jones beach show. The Bayshore show is as good, but the anchoring isn't so good, I prefer the protected anchorage within the Zacks bay. And the ride back is very scary! Crazy scary.....

Which ride back is crazy scary? The one from Zach's Bay, or from the GSB?
I was thinking of finding a place to drop the hook fairly close to the Robert Moses which would give me a pretty short ride back to my dock in a pretty open area that I know really well.
I was thinking that would be pretty safe if I start heading back as soon as the show ends.

Actually, they are both really scary, Zacks bay and the ride back from the Bayshore fireworks. Coming back from Bayshore you have to somehow penetrate the gauntlet of ferries that immediately return all in a row from the bay to their slips, then its really fun going under the Robert Moses bridge, the water is so whipped up from all the other boats and their proximity to your boat can give you agita! I think the trip back from Zacks is a bit tamer.. But the proximity to the fireworks in Bayshore is awsome, you can get close, they are right on top of you! Almost.

If you go to the captree fishing boats website and click fireworks it states that the captree boats are heading to bayshore. Where is it written that the bayshore show is cancelled? I had planned on taking the boat to bayshore like i did last year. Last yr's show was great.

I'm confused at this point where they actually will be. Like I said at one point Grucci listed 2 GSB shows - one in Bay Shore, one Patchogue. Someone (can't remember who) told me Bay Shore was cancelled and then I noticed it was dropped from the Grucci web site and the remaining entry said 'Patchogue, north bay'. Now it says "Mid-Great South Bay between the North and South shores" and to contact the Captree fleet. Someone at Watch Hill this weekend said they were going off from Timber Point. If the weather is nice I'm going out in the afternoon, and if I don't have more specifics before then will see where the Captree boats setup and figure out where to anchor accordingly.

Found a couple things online - looks like there may be one show on July 3rd by the Connetquot River and July 4th will be off Patchogue.

For the 4th - "Grucci will produce another spectacular off the South Shore of Long Island, this time in Patchogue Bay, West Bay,#8232; and off East Islip at Champlin Creek. The fireworks should be visible from Fire Island and all the beaches in the vicinity from Smith’s Point Beach to the Bay Shore Marina."

And this map - www.thesnapperinn.com/pdf/Fireworks-Map-2012-07-03.pdf

Every mention of Bay Shore fireworks I found is for 2011.

We should all just get together and use our expired flares for a show, I know I have a ton of them :)

I like that idea! I've got some I'd like to get rid of. I was going to put them in the back of the cars in case of emergency, or maybe drop them off at the local Fire Department. But lighting them off sounds like more fun.

OMG, why do we have to go through this sh_t every year? They are on then they are not! What a joke this inept Gov't is! You would think the least we could get for our hugh tax bill would be a lousy fire works display... Even a one horse town in Alabama can pull that off! So, the sources I'm reading is that Bayshore IS on... Jones beach is off..who knows...

So I decided to anchor a little west of Sailor's Haven and take the dinghy in to the beach for the afternoon with the intention of moving further east before dark for the fireworks. Well, they just set up the barge a mile west of me roughly in front of Ocean Bay Park. The whole Captree fleet is there too. So I ended up in the perfect spot by chance.
