I just got an email from the Trenton Thunder, and they are running a promotion all season long. Kids 12 and under will receive a voucher at the gate for 1 free hot dog, 1 bag of chips, and 1 fountain drink. All season long!

The Trenton Thunder is a double A minor league baseball team associated with the NY Yankees, and their stadium is about 30 miles North of Philadelphia up the Delaware River. There is plenty of water most of the way until you get to the stadium, but it gets a little skinny past that. Don't wander north of the county docks, or you'll be sorry. Don't ask how I know this...

The Mercer County (NJ) docks are just a few hundred feet from the main gate, and tickets are $12 for the best seats in the house. It's not that crowded, so you can usually buy tickets at the gate on game day. Food and drink prices are very reasonable as well. There's tons of stuff to keep the kids busy, and they have stuff going on between every inning. THe even have a "bat-dog", that runs out to home plate and retrieves the bats during the game after a hit!

Right next door, also within walking distance, is a restuarant/club called Katmandu. It's pretty lively at night, and maybe not for the kids, but on Sunday mornings they have an awesome brunch buffet.

We went up there a couple of times last summer, and it was great. The docks are clean and there's plenty of room. We were the only boat there both times, on a Sunday afternoon.

With the economy in the state it's in, I think we're going to be spending a lot more time at local places like this. If you see the Annabo docked there this summer, come into the stadium or Katmandu and look for me. I'm the goofy guy with the skipper hat.

Bob,

My wife is the Director of School Age Child Care Services for the C.B. school district (Community school, before school, after school and summer programs). She arranges for several hundred kids to go to a couple of Thunder games every summer. She was not aware of this hot dog deal until I told her about your post. Thanks!

I know! My kids are in your wife's care every day!

Gee, Bob, I'll let her know to look out for them. (Just kidding.) She's got something like 1800 kids in the program during the school year and 1000 in the summer programs. I assume your kids are in the Butler program during the school year?

Yep, you got it - Butler. Bo is in 6th grade and Anna is in 2nd (Now you all know where the name Annabo came from). They did the summer program a few years too. She does a great job. The kids absolutely LOVE the before and after school programs. They get mad when Mom or I come early to pick them up! Really a great program.

My wife said to tell you "thanks" and that one of the Summer Camps will be back at Butler this year. Go to the Community School link on the CBSD website to see the Summer Kids Program brochure. They just posted all the planned activities and trips.

Bob,
That is great, more places should follow that lead, baseball use to be cheap entertainment, today it is a rich mans spectator sport :(

Have fun with the kids at this stadium, its great to do family activities that don’t cost an arm and a leg. Your kids will really appreciate you taking them there years down the road.

Really cool you can take your boat there, sounds like a perfect day.

Just stay in the channel that far up the river!! There's some ugly stuff not far below the surface!! Once you hit the bend it the river, then especially north of Trenton Marine you have to be careful!!

Phil is correct. DO NOT GO NORTH OF THE MERCER COUNTY DOCKS, and stay in the channel north of Trenton Marine. I found out why:
