Kingston ROs: Fair Warning

I'm thinking of going there this weekend, does anyone have any information about it? I wonder how the gas prices are?

Mike you have to go under THREE bridges to get there...faghettaboutit!

Dan, it was great seeing you as we crossed paths on the river yesterday. Nice boat! We were planning on fueling up at Atlantic Highlands on our way down, they quoted $3.68 yesterday plus another nickel for volume (I think 500 gal); we had used them on the way up. Let us know if you find better.

Speaking of nice Hatterases, what's the story on the early 60's blue hulled sport fish here at the municipal dock? It was here when we passed through in June.

Pete we'll be in and out today; if the Whaler is on the boat or behind it, I'm probably home. We're right at the end of Broadway, can't miss us; where's your boat? I'll PM my cell#.

George, it was great getting to meet you and your family today. Every time I meet another R.O. it has been a wonderful experience. It was especially nice to sit out on your aft deck and enjoy the Indian summer breeze and the fall colors. I hope we get to link up in FL during the winter!!!

Here is a pic of George and Ann that I took today with my cell phone camera, so I can prove they REALLY did get to Kingston!!!

PS - Dan, glad that you were also able to say "hello" to George as you passed by. That must have been a neat rendezvous - two Hatterases idling in the middle of the Hudson...

PPS - as I told you today, your boat looks great. Everybody's boat should look like yours does after having been lived on for 2 years :) !!!

Geo forget about fuel in Manasquan. So far we have only found it expensive. We had 2-4 on the way down and it went well enough. However we are going to run inside on the Jersey ICW timing the tides. Things are picking up a bit outside and with all the stuff we have aboard we can't move fast enough to flatten it out. And yes, dial up sucks.

Geez, Dan, what are you carrying on board that boat - your whole house???

Nope. But there is enough stuff here that can fly around. One example might be a 5 lb. dumbell. Sorry I'm too heavy to fill that bill [(;]

Fueled up today at Atlantic Highlands NJ. Diesel $3.46 less a nickel for +200 gal. Gasoline $3.11, not sure if volume discount applies.

We had fun with TowBoatUS today! We elected to try the inside going to CapeMay from AC. We gathered up all the local info we could find and we did fine until we got to mark red 306 and she pushed in. Damn. Oh well.
In fact the port side was fine and I tried to muscle her out but you can only go so far before things get bad and I chickend out. So TowBoatUS yanked us out. Charts said we were good but guess what? Nope. In fact the guy that gave us the local info (i'll give you one guess who that was) was surprised and we found a "new spot"... Luckily, no vibrations we were basically idling down the icw at this point. Tomorrow's another day, and well, a lesson learned.
We tried to keep a schedule and got spanked.
So here we are in Avalon, we have a great view the weather is great, and life is still good. On to Cape May tomorrow.

Life is great, another beautiful day. Just anchored in Brigantine; we'll be at Utsch's in Cape May tomorrow night and the next. It was some nice cruising on the Atlantic today. This is what it's all about!

Geo is that the Rum point spot just north of ac? We tried that and had bad holding. Even with the FX-55.

Wheres the google update Dan, and the pictures......

Dan
Are you going to take the Cannels to the Chesapeake or staying on the Atlantic side?

Dan, yes it is. We have stayed here twice now and had excellent holding. We use a Delta 88lb. I understand there is a loose, peaty patch somewhere here, but we or the many other boats that have been here both trips haven't found it.

We really enjoy it, great dinghy exploring grounds, and we've never set foot on ground! Off to Cape May in 20 minutes.

George

You'll see us at Utchs' since we mangled something. We're coming out hopefully this afternoon.

Andy, yes we are going through the canals. That's too long a run for us!

Sorry to here the bad news Dan, hopefully its a quick fix for you.

Thanks Butch. Not sure what it is yet, but we know it is the stbd side. We could go slow without issue but to be on the safe side we are going to have both the props looked at. I don't think we could do 12 knots if we needed to now and that's not safe.

landed on this thread clicking on the wrong link... glad i did, I didn't know Dan was heading south too. Maybe i'll catch up with you guys in the next 3 weeks, I'm flying up to Providence tomorrow morning and will start taking Charmer south in a couple of days.

Fuel prices are coming down, but it pays to shop (phone around). Down to close to $3 in Miami, I saw reports on Cruisers Net of prices under $3.25 in NC... while a few miles away, it's still over $4.25!

Sounds like a plan Pascal. Just don't blow by us ok. The last thing I want is a big Johnson coming up on me. :D

By the way the blog at danmapes.blogspot.com has some threads on this. It's not a commercial site or anything. It's one of those free-be deals you get with google and gmail.
