A Kohler 7.5KW generator common killer is a rotted out manifold end cap, #241278. It fits onto the end of the heat exchanger and there were (I thought) none around for replacement. So one's options were limited to scrapping the generator that works fine other than with a heat exchanger problem or having the failed end cap re manufactured in a machine shop.

Good find, but without that , to save use of the apparently otherwise perfectly good generator could you have rigged a new replacement heat exchanger ( not necessarily identical) if the original is aging?
