Anybody heard or experienced anything about perching in the western basin (west of davis besse)? I 'm about done chasing the walleye out so far, the gas is killing me. I'm coming out of anchor point and looking for perch.
 
How about perching out of fairport? anybody having any luck?
 
thanks a bundle Jim P. That's a nice website, I've already added it to my favorites. I'm sure fishing has been good around Kelly's and the lighthouse, it usually is, but I'm looking more towards west sister and little cedar point. The report of perch being caught off of ward's canal sounds good to me.
 
They report anything from the Toledo light to way east of Sandusky.
 
Well, if anybody else was looking for an answer to my question, I went out and lit 'em up at the harbor light and when I went up to butch and denny's to drop my fish off, there were a lot of people catching thier share of perch at both the harbor light, the intake, and little cedar point.
 
I've been out twice since my last post and did pretty good both times, including a 13 1/2 in. and a 3 lb. smallie. The last trip was slow and steady and the trip before was awesome, big fish. Right on top of the Toledo harbor light. I won't be getting out for a while now though (knee surgery) so if anybody could kind of keep this thread updated with current reports that would be appreciated. As soon as I get back out, I'll let out if I do any good.
 
Went perching out of Fairport to the hump. Limited out two days in a row. Storms came thru and turned off the bite. Would like to har from someone out of Mentor or Fairport. Thanks
 
Went out to A-can Tuesday, very hot and very calm but we puled a two man limit and I got a bonus 4 lb. smallie. My buddy also did well near A can although he fished in about 27' while I was closer in about 20-21'.
 
The A,B,C, etc.. cans mark out the perimeter of the camp perry firing range. A-can is on the western side of thefiring range south of west sister island. If you're near that area, the A,B, and C cans offer some great hot spots for perching. I've always done very well in those areas. Especially B and C cans later in the fall.
 
How far out past the Toledo Harbor light is the "Turn-around Buoy"? I've heard it mentioned and wondered. There is a stationary marker on the east side of the channel, <2 miles past the T H light, is that it? Thanks, John
 
What you may be talking about is the sputnik, that green spaceship looking thing. The turn around is a bit further out. From anchor point where I'm at it's a drive. Once the walleye moved out past the turn around earlier this year, I switched to perch. If you go to the harbor light, and head north, in a line you'll see sputnik then the turn around bouy but it's definetly more than two miles past the harbor light, out near where the toledo channel ends.
 
Perch? Are you talking about the same White Perch or Black Perch that we call Crappie down here where they dont have a real good command of American English and tend to call every thing by a nick-name of some unknown origin?

Down here they use Crickets n' Shiners (Minnows) mostly. Some jigs will work pretty well some times.

What do you use up there?
 
Yellow perch, yellow with dark green stripes vertically down the sides. They are great tasting fried. Use emerald shiner minnows for bait. Average size 7-10". Some 13/14" are out there. Fun to catch and typical season is just starting. Now til November 1st. Lake Erie/ weather gets nasty then.
 
We have white perch and yellow perch, but those are different than white and black crappie as we have those as well. The targeted fish are always the yellow version for reasons mentioned above.
