Lake Michigan - Waukegan To Racine - Destinations

The Yardarm in Racine is a great place to dine and it's right off the Root River (spills into Lake Michigan). If your docking at Marina, Downtown Racine has transformed itself from kind of run down into a very nice place to visit with lots's of good dining options. If you like Sushi, Shogun's is very good (a bit of a walk from the marina). There's the Yellow Rose Restaurant within walking distance and it's also very good.
There's an Italian place a little further down the street from Yellow Rose that's outstanding. Unfortunately, the name escapes me.

Wishoot - Thanks for the info! Can I get to the Yardam by boat from Lake Michigan?
In Google Maps, I can see that the river goes past the Yardarm, but do they have docks, and can a boat with an arch (10') fit under the bridge?

Never mind, I got off my lazy arse and called them. They don't have docks, but they indicated that I can walk from the Marina.
This will be our destination if the weather is good - we will probably launch from Northpoint, and cruise up to Racine. Looks to be just over 10 miles each way - should make for a nice ride if the big lake cooperates.

In Kenosha there's a place right by the marinas. I think the name is Corks. I do not recommend going into the old downtown at night. The Italian place in downtown Racine is Salute'. There is a new restaurant in Reef Point Marina called Spinnaker's. The new owner is doing a great job. Don't go unless your reser. is in the non-smoking room on the west side. Also, a very small spot just a block away is Waves. Slow service but excellent food. I agree you'll love the Yardarm. Get a slip at the old Pugh's on Erie, now called Racine Riverside Marine. You walk 75 yards to the Yardarm and crawl back. You may get lucky and visit during the weekly (I think) farmers market in the parking lot next door to the Yardarm. Resers a must at all but the Yardarm. Good luck!

We cruised from Northpoint to Racine last night. It was a bit choppy, but not rough. This was right around 15 miles.
We intended to go to the Yardarm, but failed to find a convenient slip. I had some retired folks with me, so I wanted a short walking distance. We ended up at Charlie's Charthouse as they had an open slip in front of their restaurant. Food and service were OK, nothing to complain about, but certainly nothing to write home about either. The slip out front was not much to write home about either as it was about 2 feet shorter than my boat.
Racine is a great destination with lots of stuff going on. I plan on going back to Racine several times this year (and Kenosha as well). Heck, I might even consider getting a slip there. Although if I slip in Racine, I will probably head to Milwaukee for dinner. LOL.

Visited the Chancery this week (Sept 12) - slow due to weather and time of year, was very impressed. Courtesy docks are nice, but small (short, had to back in). Hope to visit the Yardarm before the end of the season. If not, I am going to drive there!
I have been on this site for awhile and missed this particular thread. I keep my boat in Kenosha at Southport. Recommend the following in Ktown, Chops (steak, seafood, live entertainmant) WineKnot good food, wine etc..
Villa Dicarlo italian, Pazzo's for late night new place opening soon Kaiser's pizza,.
You can dock at the Marina they have some transients
Racine love Waves, Saloto's, Chartroom, there is also a bar restaurant at Reefpoint. You can pull into reefpoint, go up the river or pull in the basin near the public launch.
As for places to anchor just soout of Racine is the "boaters beach" inside the breakwall with sandbar.
