We're at Kent Island for the weekend. Temps in the mid 60's and light winds. Great boating weather. Who else is still boating? We're based out of Rock Creek and hoping the weekend of 12/4 is decent so we can boat to the Christmas boat parade in Baltimore, go to dinner, and then boat home on 12/6 (Monday) if we can get tickets to the Ravens-Steelers game.

C'mon folks, there's no ice yet!!!

I am heading out in a couple of hours. Hope to meet up with some co-workers and take them for a cruise from Bodkin Creek to Inner Harbor and back. The Bay was a little rough last Sunday to try this, but I hope it is calmer today.

Hey Kurt, we're still boating, but I guess we are cheating. We left the boat in FL through the winter for the first time. I really miss being able to go to the boat every weekend and maybe once during the week to work on something. But we fly down on Spirit every two or three weeks. Being able to use the boat through the middle of the winter and having more time in the islands next year will make it worth while hopefully. We are at the Loggerhead marina in Hollywood FL and really like it there, heated year round pool etc.

Planning on bringing her home to the Chesapeake next August. But I keep having these dreams of heading all the way down to the Virgin islands. Leaving from So Fl in May and taking 3 or 4 weeks to get there then taking 3 or 4 weeks to return in July.

It was 81 degrees here today. However, due to poor planning on my part no boating. Supposed to be this way the next few days. Unfortunately I will be in MD by tomorrow afternoon.

Rick - What is spirit. Is it a discount airline?

I was all set to go..... then the wife sprung a party on me. And not for me. Still eyeing next weekend. I was at Solomons the other weekend. It was almost sad all that salt over my Great Lakes boat. I am looking at like Stafford or Woodbridge. I put a new outdrive on and it could use a few more hours before the lube change. Would like to run her good in some freshwater too. Hate to catch that 'salt' disease ;-)

I just had mine winterized. I will be to busy with the house construction to be able to go boating. So I just closed her up and will give a thorough going over in the speing so I can use her a lot next summer.

Mike: Have you check for a slip at Quantico?

jmeirhofer, yes Spirit is an ultra low cost carrier. There are a few nuances to flying with them, but once you know what to expect, not too bad and its only a 2 hour flight. We flew round trip from DCA to FLL several times this year for $100 to $120 round trip. Fly out Fri evening or Sat morning and return Mon morning on an early flight to get to work at a reasonable time. For the last several years we spent most of our Florida time in the Bahamas and wanted to have more time in So Fl. It is working out pretty well so far, but we miss being on the boat every weekend.

It's been a long time since I thought of this; when I was much younger, I was lucky enough to work on a private 'yacht', and we stayed in the water (south of Boston area) up until at least Thanksgiving weekend so that we could go flounder fishing.

Then, some time shortly thereafter, within the week after Thanksgiving, we would, very reluctantly I realize now, get her hauled out so that we cound winterize her and get her covered for the winter.

Sometimes, the weather would hold and we'd have great boating experiences, and sometimes, well you know what would happen. One day too late was always really a bitch.....

Hey Rick,

I'm glad you're happy with FL. I've got some friends here in MD that do the same thing; take the boat to FL each fall and fly down every other week. I think they're on year 3 of it and quite happy. We won't be back in FL until next June when we try for the Exumas.

I don't really worry about it since we don't winterize. All I have to do is install the two USCG approved heaters, tilt the outboards down in the water, and put up the cockpit 2x4's. A few years ago we boated all 12 months. This past year I did as usual prep-wise, but the 90+ inches of snow that fell won the battle.

Here are some pics from yesterday head to the western shore from Kent Island. I haven't seen water this flat on the Chesapeake all year.

Great weekend for boating out on the Bay. Headed out of Kent Island on Saturday and moored out all day on Shaw Bay. Sunday, Chester River was like glass. Just a goregous weekend to be boating! Sounds like next weekend also shaping up to be nice albeit 5-8 degrees cooler.....

Beautiful today on the lower Potomac, Yeocomico was flat...still high water in the rivers, not much for wind..was absolutely beautiful out today...saw two eagles

Kurt, We had water that flat on Thursday 8/19 when we had a dozen boats come over from NJ for a long weekend. Amazing when it happens, but you have to watch that you don't sunburn the bottom of your chin or the inside of your nose! We'd be out, but we're in the bottom level of an indoor drystack that's now full of boats. Can't get to it...

I'm going to hit the sack after this post as it's 11pm and I'm old, but we're out on the boat and downtown B'more for the evening. Again, there's no ice and the boating in MD is fantastic this time of year. We'll head back home tomorrow afternoon and see if we can't boat a little more in a week or two.

We are still on the water Kurt in southern NJ. Looks like 2 more weekends then we pull the boat. I'd leave it in longer but I have to get the engines pulled and delivered to Stan before the new year. I got my macerator transfer pump replaced today. I decided to replace all the associated black water hoses while I was at it. Not a fun day but I was able to come up with a better routing solution for the sanitation hoses and replaced my diverter valve and get the deck pump out working again. I really like the upgraded Y diverter valve the new one has ends that swivel and you can lock it in either position. I didn't get too many cuts from the new clamps or too much of a brown slurry shower in the process.

Another great weekend out on the Bay. Nice trip over to St. Michaels for lunch on Sunday, and drinks on the boat with friends on the bulkhead at CB Museum. Can't beat Sept - Nov for boating on the Chesapeake. Guess I will eventually have to winterize but putting off as long as the good weather is still around.

I'm in all year long! Once the temps really drop, the engine room will be heated, domestic winterized but we stay on the boat just about every weekend. (Covered slip)

On those nice days that pop up, off we go...somewhere. Fishing season for me, doesn't end until the 31st!

I'm glad to see so many people still at it, and especially those of us that don't winterize. Even if I can't make it out Dec-Feb, I will be out again in March, so what's the point of hauling, blocking, shrink wrap, etc? Well, other than those things make marinas a ton of money!

Here's some pics from yesterday:

It was indeed pretty flat out there. Although staying in the Pataspco River really isn't "out there".

I'm hoping the trend continues as I'd like to boat to Baltimore on 12/4 for a few nights. There's a big Ravens game that weekend along with the annual boat parade. I guess we'll see how things work out.
