Lectra/San on eBay

Are parts still available or is it a paperweight?

The most common problem with those older units was that the twist-timer to turn it on would fail - that's why it's no longer being used. We haven't had replacement timers for them in over 10 years; in fact, the company who made them, stopped making them - we were the only customer they had for that particular timer. However, there's a fellow in Annapolis, MD who is building and marketing an aftermarket timer that can be used in those older units (1977-1991) with only slight modification to the control head.

This guy doesn't compete with BoatFix, so there shouldn't be a problem in giving out his link.

The problem is that they've bid that particular unit up so high on eBay, that it'd be absolutely silly to buy it. It only sold for $470.00 (in those days) brand-new! If you could pick it up for a hundred bucks, then it "might" be worthwhile, but at that price - no way!

Ya gotta realize that after 30 years of non-use, the seals and gaskets are likely deteriorated and will need to be replaced (still available) but a lot of those old timers didn't work right out of the box - and aside, from the aftermarket timer, you can't get a replacement for it. So why spend the money to buy something that you're going to have to overhaul right off the bat?

FWIW I'm not thinking about buying it, was just being curious.

What does a new comparable unit sell for, assuming there is one.

I emailed the seller asking him if it works given the manufacturer says the unit is 30 years old and his reply, "It is fully functional. Thanks"

He can't possibly know whether or not it's fully functional unless he fills it up with salt water, wires it up, and runs it.
