Lectrasan reconditioning?

Hi Vic,
Last time I posted in this forum was to ask Peggy's advice. On her say so I purchased an Lectrasan in Oct 2001. Now I think it is time for a rebuild. I've already done the acid treatment but I think the electrodes are gone. For the longest time, it always was giving the extended treatment. Then the red light occasionally started coming on. By Thanksgiving when I put it to bed for the winter the red light came on every time.

So, does Raritan still do reconditionings & what is the procedure to send it back to NJ? Also, any ballpark on how long it takes?
Thanks
Al

Yes we can still recondition the units at the plant. Call (800) 352-5630, ext 236 for an RMA (Return Materials Authorization). This time of year we should be able to get it back to you in 10 days - 2 weeks. Note: when the extended cycle is running, it is indicating that something is wrong - that's the time to address it. If you continue using it without correcting the situation, the situation won't improve, and the repair bill goes up.

Vic,

I have a lectra san system on a boat I purchased in the spring of '06. I have yet to commission the lectra san system as I have not thoroughly read the manuals, and instructions.

Is there anything specific I should look for or check prior to proceeding?

Vic, got my unit back with the additional upgrade of the jumper & chip. Put it back in the other day & it didn't work.Thought I just might have bad connections from sitting over the winter. Checked them all OK. In the process of checking, found that intermittently the system would work.Moved the connections for the Crown to toilet 2. No change. Also tried a new cord from from panel to lectrasan. No change. Works sometimes & other times it doesn't OR the cycle just shuts off. Try the panel operation again & dead. Tried to isolate it to one single bad connection. Can't do it. Sometimes reseating the + from the solenoid works. Sometimes it is the - that works. Other times resetting the RJ cord works. Sometimes it is loosening or tightening the bulk power cables. In other words, no repeatable pattern. Tried another Raritan solenoid. Same intermittant pattern but now the toilet does not turn on & when the lectrasan does operate, it shuts off in about 25 seconds. If I jumper the main lugs on the solenoid, the Crown operates. Could it be possible for a new solenoid (in spare parts for 5 years) to send power to the lectrasan but not to the Crown head? Disconnected the panel & tried the jumper from the POS to the Trig (?) test. Did not operate.

The one thing I did notice before I installed the unit is that it appears that the upper pin on the left side of the ckt board chip is possibly buckled & not seated correctly. I assumed this was tested in NJ, so I did not want to pull the chip to find out definitely. From past experience I figured if it were bent, pulling the chip & straightening the leg stood a good chance of breaking the pin off.

So my ??? is, where do I go from here. Do I have to pay again to ship it back & forth or are there any parts that can be sent to me?
Thanks
Al

Lobsta1, this isn't a situation that should be discussed here on this Forum. There are just too many possibilities; it could take months to sort things out.

Call Joe at Raritan's repair shop (800) 352-5630, ext 236, and let him make arrangements for you to ship it back and be re-checked.

Vic,
Update: Sent the circuit board & switch panel back to Joe. He called me back 45 minutes after receiving it. It was the bent legs on the chip causing all the problems. Heck, that is easy enough to bend them. I've done it myself in the past. Everyting is fine now.
