Has anyone here made runs from LI over to Little Captain Island off Greenwich CT? Any tips about mooring and beaching over there for day trips? Thanks...

Never beached but I used to anchor behind them.

Lots of rocks and don't go between without local knowledge. I also remember current was ripping.

Just located the EarthNC online charts. Looks challenging, and I see what you mean about between. Rocks & foul everywhere. Looks like the only rational thing is come in up harbor east of Little Captain then sweep around the back. I get the feeling it's not worth the run for me from Cold Spring Harbor. If I'm going to ding a prop, may as well be in Sand Hole off Lloyd's Neck close to home.

I ve anchored there a couple of times, obviously in deeper water behind the islands but the charts are accurate and it s all well marked, even with a 6' draft 70 footer

Pretty scenic spot.

Little Captains has the advantage of a concession, but also has crowds and a very small anchorage. Most boaters around here anchor off the north beach on Great Captains, which has a nice sandy bottomed bay, or off Shell Island. Forget Greenwich Cove, unless you are going during the week.

I'll take Huntington any day.

Interesting. Maybe it's not worth crossing the chop in the sound on a 23 footer, relative to what is already on our side. Maybe the next all afternoon trip will be to relax at Sand City.
