Does anyone know if there are any such places on Long Island

Thanks
Walter

They're used to be a few in Seaford and also in Port Washington. Don't know if they still exist.

My parents lived on their boat in the Huntington Yacht club for a little over a year I don't think they were the only ones there. It must be rough to winter on a boat. A couple of times when it got real bad (cold) they took a hotel room. My parents sold their home quicker then expected and their new place took longer to build then expected, good thing they had a boat at the time.

Manhasset Bay Marina offers full time live aboard. I am there presently and they have ~8 houseboat/barges as well as ~15 boats.

There used to be a few live aboards at Glen Cove Marina before it became Brewers.

Problem is water. Many turn it off.

I don't even want to think about pump-out.

My best friend lived on a housebarge in Seaford. Wasn't too bad in the winter and the water only froze once on them. It was beautiful and unique but after 9 years they decided it was enough.

My parents stayed at Knutsens and Willis in Huntington for 25 years. I don't know if things have changed but they enjoyed the life so much I want to do the same. As far as water, it was a challenge they managed. Join a gym, work out a little bit and use their shower. It won't hurt I promise. They make incinerating heads that use very little water, and there are water desalinators, although they are far from perfect. If it's what you want to do, you will make it work, if not it will be a chore beyond comprehension.

There's a marina in Port Washington that has a bunch of live aboards...house barges and boats.

I'm just curious.........Anyone have any idea what monthly costs are for those marinas?

Yep, Tom's Point Marina.

They have about 15 houseboats, They go on the market every so often.

They still have about a dozen of them left in Seaford. They range from houseboats to regular, old larger boats. Very close quarters but many have been there for years.

Probably just a matter of time before they sell out. Too bad......it's a nice life for the right people.

And as you know, many of them have been there for a while. Seems very peaceful down there.

There was a couple that was living aboard year round at Oakdale Yachts. This was a few years back, they're not there anymore and not sure if they still allow it.

Walt,
I'm sure riverhead would allow it . They have to pump out the house boats so that's a mute point , just don't know about water though

Last year I wintered in the water in West Sayville. I just got off of the phone with the Marina and because of damage from Sandy they are not offering the in-water storage this year.... I used to stay on the boat on the weekends, it was great.
Now I am looking for storage with just electricity for an occasional weekend stay.
Somewhere between Sayville and West Babylon.
