Live Aboard Marinas All Year On LI

Open Bay Marina in Merrick has 2open slips for houseboats for the 2013 season.

Pals in Seaford said all the floating homes are gone.

Too bad about the house barges.....I knew many people over the years that lived there. Used to "barge sit" for my friends when they were away.

I had heard there was talk about getting rid of them years ago.
I wonder if this will be something that the town or FEMA does not allow to be built back.
I have heard people say this is a 100 year event, but not sure what that means.
We have had 2 bad hurricanes in less than 2 years now. Let's face it, Long Island sticks out with a sign on it saying hit me!
Anyone who lives near the shoreline, needs to start thinking twice as water levels seem to be rising and my fear is some day we do lose that barrier beach and then Long Island is like another Fire Island. We worried about shoreham, this is nothing compared to that. There is no escaping this island if a earthquake caused a tsunami out in the atlantic.

Maybe it's time to move to the midwest.
Lake boating.
LOL

Dave, they did get rid of some of them. Treasure Island Marina used to have them and they got rid of them when the town complained. Don't know how the others managed to remain.....I know there was a lot of controversy. My friends lived on theirs for 9 years and then bought a house on land. It was really a nice lifestyle while it lasted.
