Living in the Delta

Next time I'm at Oxbow, Jim, will look you up. To say the car is a blast to drive would be an understatment. Now if I could just do something about the bad roads, bugs and dirt blowing around in the delta ........ I'm sure I'm going to notice every one of them.
 
New Vette? '08, '09?

Don't tell me, Z06? Don't even bother to post if you got a ZR1... ;)

To me the Vette is by far the best car for the buck, and proud to say it's made in the USA! Owned a couple, but nothing like the new ones, they're really fast...
 
I picked up an '04 convertible a few months ago. It's my first vette. I am really enjoying it. Nice ride.
 
This is my first Corvette too - really loving it. It's a black '99 Coupe with 28K miles. Almost new condition. Has Borla catback exchaust and new Eagle runflats amongst other things. Have had the targa top off for the last week but with rain on the way, that will end soon. I'm 6'4" tall so the C5 is the only series I can fit in comfortably. With this awful economy, hard to believe I paid less for it then my used Trailblazer I bought a couple years ago.

I dont live in the delta but I will say the water front homes in Suisun Marina are gorgeous and you might find a great deal. Its quiet and serene and there is great fishing there.
 
Mitch, just sold my 430 hp, 430 lbs ft of torque gorgeous white corvette. Wife hated it, and made an ultimatum. Best vette I ever owned. The new C6s are totally reliable and comfortable. Gosh I hated to sell it. I bought a new Infiniti G-37 coupe and its pretty and nice and fast and has a vetigal back seat, but in no way shape or form is it as fast the new vettes. I used to get 20 mpg around town- 1100 rpm at 45. The G-37 V-6 is getting 18, and 45 mph is almost 2000 rpm. Nope, the C6 vettes are simply a fantastic car. Someday, when the kid gets older I will buy another.

The homes on the water in Suisun are nice. Have friends who had a place at Lawler Ranch back in the mid-90s when they were building it. We spent alot of time at the marina district hanging out and launching their boat. Haven't been there in a while, though. Perhaps a trip back is due.

If you want to test drive the delta, I just looked at a built-in 25' travel trailer with an additional family room added that is at Korth's. Instead of $500k like Oxbow, it was $35K. This is a really cute little trailer park - lots of trees, funky old trailers, but pretty well maintained. It reminds me so much of Lake Berryessa Marina where I had a place for 15 years. YOu get to be part of a really happy community and make some great friends. Many people live there full time. Would be a fun way to get to know the delta, and have your boat right outside your door (sort of) for dirt cheap. The space rent is under $300 and it includes sewer but you are on your own for power.

Tiki Lagun has similar trailers for sale. On their site they want $45K, but I'll bet you can get them for less. They actually look nice with wood siding, a porch and a loft.

Also, it does fit the bill as funky and it is about as far from the rat race as you can get in the Delta. While Oxbow and The Delta Loop are nice and laid back, they are still close to civilization. Tiki is in the middle of nowhere and you definitely feel like you're in the sticks. I kind of miss the place.
 
A couple of other place to find trailers in place for sale are Windmill Cove and Tower Park Marina.....
 
Unfortunately (well, I wouldn't quite say unfortunately) but buying the Corvette pretty much ruled out a houseboat/small trailer setup. Would pretty much have to be - sell my house and buy another.

Jim, am familiar with Korth's. Have checked out the park a number of times. Actually talked to some folks who had one of the real nice prefab homes there and were thinking of selling. They gave me a full tour of the place. Unfortunately, the timing wasn't right. They eventually sold it. Think, if I do move to the delta, I definitely want to live on the water. Will probably wait for spring when the weather gets nice, and stays nice, before making any decisions. Have also looked at Vieira's. They have some nice places right on the Sacamento River - I'd have my own dock so would not have to pay for one. Am a little spooked at spending six figures for a place and still have to pay rent on the land, though. I've known people with real bad experiences doing that. Would think a Korth's/Vieira's setup would be a little different, though.
 
If you "right on the water", watch out for flooding! Viera's has a long history of flooding during high water runoff...... Oxbow's is up on the levee; much safer that way!
 
Flutterby, you are right about Vieira's. I sometimes forget about the flooding 'issue'. Have pics of the mid-80s flooding in my old Hal Schell delta book and was around for the '97 flooding. The homes that are right on the river - they say - are above the flood plain. Was told when we had that awful flooding of New Years a couple years ago - the water got very close - but not quite up to the homes at Oxbow. Flooding is a serious issue in the delta so would have to be kept in mind for any future home.
 
I remember that New Year's Eve flooding. We had just bought the boat a couple months prior and went shopping for some things for the boat. When we returned, the ramp to our berth was under a foot of water and we had to wade across the ice cold water to get to the boat.
 
I was at the boat with my SO. During the storm before the high waters, it was so windy we had difficulty moving around the boat while it was tied in its slip! We were watching the local news 24/7 on TV.

My SO fell down and broke his hip. Had to be removed by paramedics 'cause he was unable to get himself out of the cabin. A very painful time for him, but he eventually recovered and got back to his normal, child-like self!
 
Spent my childhood going to my uncles boat on Bethel Island. Spent my teenage years water skiing on twin sloughs with my girlfriends family. I will always remember in the 70s going into Discovery bay and seeing the first houses and thinking how great it would be to live there. Bought my first house there in the mid 80s. Sold my third and last house there in 98. I now work in Florida and keep my boat there. Subscribe to the Yachtsman and always keep my heart on the Delta. I would look forward to the winters and foggy cold. As my friend who lives there now says, if you didnt have winter you would turn into a alcoholic. I have ten more years until I am 62 and retire. I will move back to a home I have in Arizona and keep a boat on the delta. I will never leave for good again.
