This weekend I had a weird problem with my Lofrans Progress One windlass. It worked from the foot switches, but not from the helm switch. I took apart the switch and cleaned the contacts. No good. Then I took apart the big square harness connector and cleaned all those contacts. Still no good. I went thru the anchor locker access panel and pulled off the 3 wires going to the control box. I put am ohm meter across them and had my wife depress the switch. No reading either up or down.

So I was stumped. The next day, I removed the panel with the guages, and traced the switch wires to the selenoid. Ahaa! The selenoid had 2 5 am blade fuses in it. Both were good, so I cleaned the contacts and reseated them. Whoopee! It fixed it.

Just wanted to share to help someone else avoid all the crap I went through.

Funny.. I had the exact same problem this weeksnd and the exact same fix.. Whoopee...

Leigh, did you figure it out right away? Or was I the only one who tried everything else first? :)

I used a test light at the rocker switch and relized that I wasn't getting power, so I opened the gauge panel and saw the soleniod. I tested the power coming into the soleniod, which we had and then tested the power going out... nothing! I actually took the soleniod out and was trying source a new one but had no luck, so I decided to put the "Bad" soleniod back in so I didn't have loose and live wires hanging around. Once reinstalled it worked fine.. I am ordering a replacement as a back up because I think I may have an issue with it. the Up & Down buttons at the helm work BUT the Main swith now does nothing so I have a feeling the soleniod is shot or is soon to be....

Before this issue, I thought the main switch was bad. I opened the switch and cleaned the contacts, and it's been fine since.

BTW, I should have thought to test for power at the switch, rather than just testing the switch with am ohm meter. That was smart of you.

Does your selenoid have the 2 5 amp fuses on it?
