I heard from some people that parts of Lindenhurst were underwater last night and still this morning.

Not alot of details but if you have a boat, today is a good day to check it because when boats float high, they tend to float over finger piers and when the tide goes down, boats don't!

Don't walk thru the water if marina is still energized.

Hopefully everyone is okay.

I didn't think last nights high tide was as high as other times post Sandy. I'm in Patchogue. When I left this morning at 6:00, it was still high. High tide there is about 10:30 I think. Better to check it out than be sorry.

Not quite as high this morning as last night. Hopefully that was the worst of it. No issues by my house. Seems like for years we have one October storm with very high tides almost every year.

Yep, we had a super high tide up the Hudson, was pretty cool.

Checked it out this morning about 9:30, couldn't see my dock and didn't want to get electricuted so I didn't go close. Looks weird seeing all those boats looking as though they are sitting randomly with nothing to hold them in place.

Went to AYC at low tide to take my dock box home. It had floated last night as it was empty after I sold the dinghy in it.
At low tide, East Shore road was still flooded.
Tide was up to top of dock at low, so I think tonight's high will be bad.

I still for the life of me don't understand why they can't do something about the water that comes up on road from the sewers.
Check valve of some sort? All the water in the road is from the sewer, not rain.

Its all about money when it comes to check valves. My street will flood from high tides that does not go over the bulkhead. Like the past 3 days!! I actually had a rep from Tideflex Check Valves come survey our situation. He said its the same story from Queens to Montauk. The valves work great and are cheap in the scheme of things. Its the drains ,pipes and culverts that are a problem. Most of the buried pipes are in excess of 50-75 years old. Each and everyone of them would have to be replaced before any contractor would install and guarantee a check valve. Its a costly nightmare these towns dont want to do. Guy told me a story of one drain to be replaces in Copaigue. One drain! Town all set to do whole job. Pipe ran along property line. One homeowner balked . His yard, fence and a deck would be dug up. Town said too bad we have a right of way in your deed. Checked Deed. Not there. Found an old deed from 75 years ago, it was there. Title companies now out of business. Town said we are going to court. That was all pre Sandy according to the rep. Nothing done til this day. Its aging infrastructure that only affects a small percentage of tax payers.

Was at my dock at low tide Thursday afternoon and the water was up where it normally is at a real high tide.
Came back again at low tide yesterday (Friday) and there was ankle deep water on my property.
Showed up again at low tide almost two hours ago and water was at almost the same level (normal high tide level) as it was on Friday.
Just a little higher now two hours later, so it looks like things will be better after this tide cycle.
Regarding the storm drains.
Doesn’t seem to be a sense of urgency for the Towns.
I have one that comes across my dock property. A 24” pipe that runs from the street to the canal.
Been having problems with it collapsing for several years and pulling part of my bulkhead back with it.
Had the town down here a couple of years ago and they told me the pipe was fine and that my bulkhead was being compromised because of Sandy.
Didn’t look like that to me but you can’t fight City Hall.
The pipe finally collapsed all the way late last winter and I found a sinkhole on my property.
Town came in April and told me the pipe needed to be replaced. Duh!!!!!
They put it on “the list”.
4 months later they came and marked the pipe with stakes in the ground. I called and asked why and was told the contract was given out and the contractors were getting to me soon.
That was 2 months ago and still no sign of anyone.
Very frustrating!
Trying to play nice because I don’t want to get pushed further back on “the list”.
Just hoping they get to it soon so I can have my bulkhead replaced (on my dime) over the winter and be done with the whole thing.

Looks like a repeat pf last week is instore for us tonite and tomorrow .

The wind was fierce here on the North Shore but no trees down and did not lose power. Boats down in the harbor look fine. Even my bird repellent pennant flags are still up. Saw a boat that had sunk in a marina on news 12 but they did not say where it was...
These storms are why I don't mind having a rotating mooring and protected harbor.
