Anyone have any thoughts pro or con on Burnt Store Marina? Marina condos, marina facilities, power boating options and destinations ie: day trips, overnighters (28 to 32 foot range, 3 foot draft - or smaller). Waterfront restaurants? Nightlife? Nearby airports? Decent golf? Am I missing anything?

Thanks in advance.

Great marina and good facilities for sure, great restaurant at marina and plenty of great places to eat around the Harbor and the area, nice size 32 or 34 ft power boat and all above is very good in Burnt Store, night life can't help with I am retired married with 36 sailboat and love keeping my boat at Burnt Store for sure.
I don't live in Burnt Store but it seems to be a nice place to live and Golf looks all great

Great area, easy access to just about everything. Outstanding marina. good crusing etc.

Nearby Pine island sound is one of my favorite spots. the marina itself is nice with many amenities. Good for a short boating visit maybe less so as a permanent location. not much else around outside the marina itself and it is a long way up and down the bay if you want to go anywhere by boat. By car it is also quite a drive to get to stuff. Traffic is heavy in that area now and there are only two busy roads in and out.

If you are thinking of moving you should rent for a while to be sure you want to be in that area.

Read books by local author Randy Wayne White for some local color.

No snow, ever.

Bruce is right on re: Pine Island, always reminds me of the many small new England waterfront areas. Randy Wayne White is an excellent story teller and does provide good overviews of the area.

Good idea to rent before buying and you can rent first in Burnt Store and also looking at PGI has many condo's on canals and also Port Charlotte.
I am amazed how little the area has boat traffis except when you travel closer to ICW and any inlets like Boca Grand and Stump pass,I came from Long Island,NY and traffic boat traffic was crazy.
I would recommend renting a few months and do some boating around Ft Myers which has high volume boat and car traffic and Charlotte Harbor lower traffic.

Thanks for the input folks!

Sea - that was the original plan - to start in northern South Carolina and rent for a month in different locations to get the feel for the area, finally ending up in the Tampa Bay area, before making a decision.

Last weekend someone wanted to buy the house, boat, extra mooring, etc in trade for a check and a Burnt Store Marina condo with slip.

I'm really interested in banging around Pine Island, have spent time at PG's Fisherman's Village and have good friends on Anna Maria so there's some appeal to the idea.

House isn't even on the market and I'm having too much fun at work to retire - but I could adjust.

Thanks for the Randy Wayne White idea.
Talk to me some more...

If you're on the south end of Pine Island, have lunch at The Ragged Ass Saloon.

It's across the channel from where we set the diesel engines in at York Road Marine.

Say hello to Tommy !
