Looking for winter storage at AYC

I know this was discussed in an earlier thread.

I'm looking to put up my 34'er at the anchorage this winter. Anybody here not using their slot or have any suggestions?

And the haul out was $18.95 I think. Wow, you begin to see the value of owning a slip at AYC.
I still pay the haul out though.
 
AYC ???

What is the full name? I am also looking for winter in-water storage. I like the weekend getaways with propane / electric heat of course.
I had planned on going to Freeport but my running gear is all fouled and my GPS would not find a signal this weekend ! The boat gods are not playing fair.
 
AYC is Anchorage Yacht Club in Lindenhurst.
Alot of us have slips in there.
It is a Dockominium, so we own our slips.
We also rent slips.
You can spend the winter in the water but need to provide your own ice eater.
 
How would the electric charges work ?
Are the boxes metered ?
Are the facilities open, restrroms, showers, water supply ?
How could I find out about available slips ?

Should I just call the yard or does each owner handle things ?
 
If I can rent you my slip for the winter I will, but I think becuase I use winter storage I can't.
Not really sure how that works.
I have a nice slip in D dock overlooking bay.
They may winterize the bathrooms, not sure.
Water for slips is definately turned off.
Electric is on.
I don't think many people leave their boats in.
Call office and ask, 631-226-2760.
Electric is metered.
 
Wait a minute. If you haul at AYC during the winter, your slip needs to remain empty? If you own the slip, you should be able to rent or "LOAN" your slip to whoever you want.

There has to be a way to do a deal under the table with something like this.
 
I said I wasn't sure about that rule.
Would have to read by-laws.
I am sure someone could put a boat in my slip without anyone saying anything.

That's the rule, and I have no problem with that. The rule (in the bylaws) protects the integrity of the Yacht Club.

It would be very tough to get around this without getting caught, boats that are stored on the hard are giving a number (inventoried), that means that slip should be empty.
 
Dave, I hear ya, I was just jumping the gun a bit.

One of my properties in Long Beach has an assigned parking spot for the unit number. The tenant does not have a car and does not need the spot. So I lease the unit to person A and I lease the spot to person B. Was thinking you could do this at AYC, but if they inventoried the boats on the hard, it would be rather difficult to get away with this...
 
But I am still sure if Tom calls the office they can hook him up with a spot.
There are alot of slips rented just for summer with no storage.
If thy is what he wants.
I am thinking since the office is open year round they probably leave the water and showers on in that building.
That would mean a slip on b or c docks would work.

Let us know what they say. There is a board meeting Friday and I can ask about allowing you to winter in my slip. I can't see them charging more than the winter storage fee of $23 a foot. Becuase I technically could say, I don't want winter storage as part of my slip. Pay for my boat to have winter storage, then use my slip for the winter. Make sense?

By the way, with all the boats on the hard it kind of sux becuase you have a boat behind you on the hard. So would be best if they have a spot where that is not the case so you can pull you car behind your boat. I have a huge silverton behind my slip blocking my awesome view!
 
We had an RO here back in 2008 that had a 37 or so Searay, he too was looking for a place to keep his boat in the water for the winter. He fell under hard times and was selling his boat. I told him he could use my slip in the winter for no charge, upon discussions with the office there was no problem with that but the office wanted to charge him a small rental fee. The amount was real small, thinking like 375.00 for his boat.
My first reaction was WTF, I own the slip, not charging him, why would he have to pay you. Long story short, I got the reason why and agreed with it.

Storage update:
As fate would have it. I took the boat out to top off the tanks with fuel, pump out the head etc... Besides my running gear being a bit fouled my GPS could not aquire a strong signal and I kept losing position. What the _____ !

Not knowing the waters as good as I normally do in my "previuos life" I decided to stay close. I called a Marina next door and we reached a settlement on a very good price for in-water storage.
Case closed. See you in the spring. Thanks to you all for the options presented.

I have a winter storage spot open, I sold my boat. I also have a winter / summer dockage if anyone is interested. I can do winter only or winter/summer. Let me know I can be reasonable with the price. If you need both the Slip is on M Dock facing the floating docks, very large area to dock and no boats across from you. Slip is 11' 3" between the poles and limited to 30' model.

I can store anything for winter, that is reasonable, I dont think I can store a 50' with my slip but a 34 should be no problem.
