Lost GPS signal in Westhampton/Quogue Canal area?

I learned to chart courses, know tides, watch wind direction and speed, and follow a compass from my grandfather and father in the sixty's.

Now a bad elf is doing all that.

Just worried

Driving out to the boat in Montauk every weekend there are certain sections in the Hamptons where I lose the XM radio signal where there are no noticable obstructions which seems odd. Was thinking about it this weekend if there's something interfering with the signal out there and you guys are talking about losing GPS signals also. Kind of strange.

GPS, radio, and cell phones always lose signal at intersection of sunken meadow and LIE.
I think there are just dead spots or places where something else inteferes with it.
It's probably those titan missle silos they have!

Maybe there is an evil rich guy in the Hamptons that is jamming the signals so his enemies can not launch a GPS guided Missile at his dwelling.

So, went thru the area and sure enough...the GPS went out.I have a 6100i that works flawlessly every place else. I also drove thru the area on my way home and found that the GPS was not working between Dune Road (Quogue) and Montauk Highway.

Thanks Perry. I just upgraded my GPS to a Raymarine e125 so I'll let you know if I have the same problem when I go through this Thursday on my way to Mystic.

The plot thickens.

So I left Eastport at about 7:00am on Thursday, August 23rd with my Raymarine e125 and go to Mystic, CT. No problems with the GPS at all (I had left my backup Garmin off for that trip). From there went to Newport, had both GPS on, again no problems.

Yesterday I came back from Newport and again came back along the Quogue canal. First my Garmin loses signal east of Westhampton, sometimes able to require after a while, but always losing signal again, same as before.

But as I approached the Beach lane bridge my new GPS starts losing a fix, but reacquires almost immediately. Does this a number of times as I proceed West. The Garmin doing roughly the same, just not requiring nearly as quickly. Around Easport at the end of my trip my Raymarine would not reaquire.

I have no idea why 3 different GPS would have problems in this area. The 125 seems to cope the best, requiring a fix quickly, but even that unit was affected. I also find it odd I did not have a problem early in the morning on Thursday, but did on the afternoon on Friday. It really does feel like an interference problem but I have no idea what could cause an issue over so wide an area.

Thanks Dave interesting link. I will start paying attention to that page and see if I can see a pattern.
