KGD,
I agree 100%! And I'd bet that it will never be what it once was.
And for some odd reason, I don't believe that the current ownership wants it to be either. I think that they want the short and fast money of the testosterone and silicone crowd. Memorial thru Labor Day, then sleep the rest of the year.
Sad to say...
My reasoning is that the owner obviously must have deep pockets to have kept the place in his name for this long w/o it producing one thin dime. Upkeep costs must be considerable. Then add the costs of the building permits, inspections, hearing fee's, legal fee's, etc..., not to mention the operating permits and then to top all of that off, the construction costs of the initial demolition, the new docks, structures, heads, etc..., the list goes on and on!
We're talking BIG MONEY!
And there is nothing that I can see on their web site that indicates anything like family oriented entertainment.
Just ask any water sports shop in the area about how much the water skiers/wakeboarders support them in the off-season? Check out any sporting goods store and see what they do with their watersports inventory come Labor Day. They blow it out or pay to store it until the next spring. They know it's a lose-lose proposition with the majority of that crowd.
Now maybe, just maybe, the new owner might be bi-polar in the thought of servicing the T&S crowd during the hot weather and then catering (begging) to the off-season crowd to support them through the winter with a change of business tactics. ???
As we all know, it is very tough for a Delta business to survive thru the winter without stock-piling a bunch of cash when they earned it during the season, to cover costs in hopes of making a little profit or at least staying open (covering costs) during the off-season.
I know that we boat the Delta twelve months out of the year (weather permitting, of course), and I have seen others here comment that they do as well. We are eager for Delta businesses to be open during the off-season and support them when we can.
Maybe the owner has it right. Make it when he can and write-off the rest of the year.
I guess only time will tell...
