So, I clean up the boat and fix the hatch lock, and add an alarm, then gather the family up for our cruise. Everything goes fine heading out, and we get in a couple of nice peaceful hours sailing.

Time comes to head back in and I lower the engine to moter into the dock. The hydraulics lower the outboard fine, but then the engine won't start. No sound, nothing. I try jumping the starter battery with one of the house batteries, still nothing. I'm not worried because we can still sail back into the dock, but then the wind dies. I try and lift the engine out of the water, but now the hydraulics are not working at all. Since the hydraulics work off the starter battery, I am assumming it is an electrical problem and not an engine problem.

We ended up getting some help from a passing runabout to get into our dock, but now I have an electrical problem to figure out. When we left the dock, I started the engine while still connected to shore power, so I am thinking that the starter battery wasn't being charged, but the house battery was fully charged, shouldn't it have jumped the dead starter battery?

Any ideas? Any recommendations for a good deisel / electrical mechanic in the Newburgh area?

Thank,
