Macy's July 4th CG regulations

Did that one year. Never again. It's not just idling. You have to hold your position and there are a lot of other boats adrift as well. It's a lot of work and yeah four hours for a 20 minutes show that you can't enjoy because you have to worry about other boats bumping into you.

If that plan were executed around here, you would sink most of the flotilla. Anchoring makes more sense to me. It's still feeding time at the zoo, however. I prefer to stay docked for this type of thing; too many "weekend wonders" making one of their three annual boat trips...

"Vessels in the viewing areas will be required to remain underway in position, not at anchor, and not depart the section until released by the on-scene Coast Guard Patrol Commander (PATCOM) via VHF channel 16."

Most people I know can't hold position for 3 minutes let alone 3 hours!

Exactly ROmmer. That's why it was a circus. And when the Coast Guard lifted the restriction, boats were going in every direction. I'd bet that most of those boaters have little or no experience boating in the dark.

Michael,

Do you know if you can come and go as you please if you are south of restricted area?

We just want to pop nose out of Liberty Landing at 9pm watch the show and then return in.

Is that allowed as far as you know?

Jonathan

I will be there, but for the show I will be at Lincoln Harbor, which will have a front row seat for the show. I am taking out a group of friends starting at noon or so, and will be back at the marina by 6:30, for dinner, drinks and fireworks!

Hows that news you can't anchor in that area anyway on any day , just hang out nort of there untill the show begins and troll over for the show it doesn't last that long .... but it is usually awesome.
Bet they will let boats anchor anyway ..... way out of channel.....

So where is the Global Warming crowd crying about idling hundreds of twin diesels for 4 hours? Talk about stupid waste of fuel? Anyone jerking in & out of gear for 4 hours can both overheat or stress the tranny? If it's warm, keep those blowers on for cooling .

Did you read the posted link? They won't let you "stroll" over after 7 pm.

Only in the designated area , you can troll by ,the river traffic is not going to be shut down, and if you can walk on the water I supose you could "stroll" over rommer

Obviously you did not look at the link.

We don't need any trolls around here.

Not trying to feed any trolls Mike so I won't quote anything.

In case some people have trouble reading the link above as it has some medium sized images here is some of the text with the primary information.

"The areas are divided into six sections and labeled alphabetically. Each section is designated as a viewing area, safety zone or security zone. This special local regulation will be in effect between 7:30 pm and approximately 11:30 pm. All spectator vessels must be inside the viewing areas by 7:00 pm and in position no later than 7:30 pm. Vessels in the viewing areas will be required to remain underway in position, not at anchor, and not depart the section until released by the on-scene Coast Guard Patrol Commander (PATCOM) via VHF channel 16.

The fireworks are estimated to launch between 9:20 to 9:50 pm. No vessel may enter or move into Alpha Section without authorization from the Coast Guard Captain of the Port or PATCOM. Vessels outside the regulated area shall stay clear of all safety zones until PATCOM declares all areas open to the public. This information will be broadcast via VHF-FM CHANNEL 16.

Tugs & tows and commercial vessels not observing the fireworks must be outside of the regulated area no later than 7:00 pm.
"

Even commercial traffic is being shutdown on the river so yes, the river is being shutdown for roughly 4 hours.

I'm sure this will be the experience of a lifetime for those that choose to go. From the perspective of the boat passengers, an awesome thing to see. From the perspective of many boat operators, a nightmare!

Sounds like you're making a wise choice going to Peekskill Hogan!

We may see you there then.

What time are you heading out?

Jonathan, You'll be fine. You are well south of all restricted zones. I will either stay in my slip or just poke out of Newport, also just south of the restricted zone.
