Macy's July 4th CG regulations

Tonight is Bowline and Ossning

Saturday - Peekskill, Nyack, Tarrytown

Hoping someone locally on the river would have them tomorrow night as well.

I have a feeling the "no anchoring" ruling was borne of noble intentions...

I havent been anchored in New York Harbor or its environs in 25 years, but I do remember the few times we did it (esp during OpSail in '76 when I was just a kid) was that a lot of boats dragged anchor because the Hudson is deep there and most boats simply don't carry enough rode to let out sufficient scope. Today's larger motoryachts are better equipped, perhaps, but the average joe in a 25 foot express cruiser is not gonna realize he cant safely anchor until he gets down there, has a few drinks and then the anchor starts dragging...

My guess is the regulation is meant to discourage all but the biggest die hards from attending, if its not simply a knee-jerk reaction to the anchoring problem.... As for me, I'll be up at the Anchorage playing with sparklers or something...

If I remember right...they have a pretty good show right at the mouth of your Channel don't they Pete?

Oh really Dan, its later this year??? I figured it was last week...

BTW how's it goin, Gary?? Its been awhile since we've had a chance to chat...

Yes Pete. What's his name, uh, Sotille? He's at it again...

In reading the USCG Firworks Info I'm confused? Can u cruise by on the Hudson or the Hudson is closed until it'over? I'm thinking I can drive by about that time on my way to Haverstraw????

Years ago I was down there (east river) and they (CG) made everybody lift anchor.
After about 10 minutes when they saw the mess they created they told everyone to drop anchor.
I used to love going this event. There really is nothing like it. Down in Florida the shows are pretty meek.
I have headrd there is a great one in Miami but I am not crusing 200 mikes to see it.
I hope everybody had a happy and safe fourth!
