At one time Mandeville Tip was once a county park where boaters could tie up to. Does anyone know when and why they closed it down? Where did they tie up to?

I remember there where small finger docks, trash barrels and porta potties on land. There were hiking trails carved through the brush and even some picnic tables. In the early 1980s San Joaquin County had to reduce county costs. This park was a victim of that. The thinking was that this park only served a small part of the populous [boaters], so they removed all the improvements and abandoned it.
UD, it was a long time ago, and although it is only an educated guess from a former user, I think it was the late 70s or at the latest, the early 80s. It was a great little park, but the expense of having to have a barge service the park was too much. They closed it and opened the park that is accesible to both boaters and autos just north of Tower Park. Gees I got married there in 86 in a huge party and I can't even remember the name.

I wonder why they can't put some permanent moorings out on Mildred? Kind of like they do out on Angel Island. I don't think the cost or maintenance would be that great. With all the weeds taking over, it's getting harder to get the anchor to set.
Dug, was it your wedding that Hal wrote about in B&D Yachtsman???? I suppose there was more than one wedding over there [at Westgate Landing]......
Upper, Mildred, similar to Franks Tract, now belongs to the state. Hopefully they will treat Mildred for that crummy weed as they are doing with Franks. At one time the State had spent a few bucks for a wetland observatory on Little Franks Tract. Had a nice sturdy dock with 3 [I think] fingers and a nature trail to wonder through the little island. Then it flooded and they never tried to recover any of it. The docks are all but gone now. So don't hold your breath for Mildred!

With all the money the state wastes, to me this wouldn't be a whole lot. A bunch of bags of cement, some chain, and some buoys. Can't be all that much.

When did the state get ownership of Mildred? That last time I was still working for BofA, just before I retired in 2003, the state did not have ownership. I was involved with a group that wanted to buy it and turn it into a huge floating ampitheater/floating marina- great idea that met lots of resistance.
