Well,
I did it. I bit the bullet an will attempt to start creating what I hope will be works of ART! OK well hopefully I can make sure to keep the rain out. I purchased an Industrial Juki 1541S machine.

Some of you will remember July 4th 2005 when my covers started to rip while on vacation. We were at Essex CT and I was using my old Snger Featherlight 221, when it broke. So I and the boys,Bobby,Mike, and Jonathan being man-ly, went out to purchase a new machine to get me through vacation.

Fast forward to now. My tops are getting tired and the stiches are falling out, plus I would like to change my Ultraleather in my salon. So I said why not. It is time see if I can cut the muster. I will be ordering my canvas this week and start reproducing what I curently have. We shall see.

Mike,
I new I liked you. Site un-seen, ready to sign on the dotted line. I guess you really trust me. Don't you want to see what I can do first? Better yet,may be I should practice on yours first. [}}:-|>>] [:-shake]

Thats one big ass machine Bob. Really dwarfs your Navigator parked underneath it!!!!

bob, you can practice on my dashboard cover!

I was going to buy fender covers....want to help pay off the machine?
I need four, black, not sure of size yet.

Dan,
It wasn't as bad as I thought. Table,Motor,Machine,Light, foot and knee pedal, thread holder, walking feet attachment = A little over $1400.00. I guess they were right when they said it was not portable. as John pointed out, it was bigger than my Navigator. Maybe I can sew some heavy duty bumper covers for that guy in your marina Dan. This way he will not destory any other boats when he goes out or in after a day of drinking.

Thought you were in the market for another boat?

I am still looking for another boat, however, when it comes time to sell, the tops will be nice and the seats will look new. This way I will be able to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Better as a selling point I guess. Plus I will be using the machine on our 21' footer as well. I need a cockpit cover and aft curtain.

SPBM want a % of the $ value of your work, that you do on your own boat.

I thought that was only if you used an outside vendor Wayne. I guess Bob will just have to bill himself $0 and give SPBM 10% of that. Or better still charge himself -$4000 and then SPBM will have to give HIM 10% ;)

Hmmmmm. I may be on to something Wayne. I'll pay you to work on your boat and then you pay me to work on mine. A contract is a contract!

Bob considering what you can save it sounds good to me. I don't think there is a time in my life that I regret buying a piece of equipment or tool that enabled me to do the job myself. I'm always money ahead and have it for the next chore.
About the only thing I regret buying is an extension ladder. No I didn't fall off one. But stretching one of those out when you know you exceed the weight limit is no picnic. Especially two stories up!

Dan,
I agree with regards to tools. Plus I really would like to learn to sew canvas and upholstery.

Been there, done that with the ladder. Unfortunately I did fall off. Luckily it was only 10 feet off a garage. The guy holding the ladder let go for a second to get something. Well you guessed it, the bottom came out from under me while I was just getting to the top of the ladder and getting onto the roof. Boy did that hurt..

Wayne and John,
That was a good one. John I went buy Haverstraw on Wednesday to see were you were located. I see you have a nice Carver 56 Voyager next to you. Very Nice.

Thats just our winter spot Bob. We decided to summer slip over on the north side of the marina. Will be moving over there in a few weeks.

The boat currently next to us is actually a bit bigger, a 58 I believe. You should have stopped in, I was working from the boat that day. The canvas people were making the patterns for our cockpit enclosure.

Hi All,
Well this is just an update on what I was able to do with my canvas and upholstery during the off season. I was able to complete all upholstery inside my cabin. I used ultraleathers designer series, it contains an ostridge pattern in it. It's hard to see in the picture. I was also able to create a new bimini and camper top. I think now I will have to do all the sides with new Strataglass. That I may do after the season ends. My next project is to install new cockpit carpet. It just arrived yesterday. I will take some better pictures and post them soon.

Here are some pictures. The first is the old dinette, the second is the new dinette. The third is the new Bimini, the fourth is the new Bimini and Camper.

Damn Bob.. Looking good.
I have never seen the boat so clean..
The picture must have been taken before the kids got onboard... LOL

Leigh,
Actually after I threw them off.. Only kidding. We have been getting better at keeping the boat cleaner and with less stuff. Only the important things are on board, like beer, vodka, rum, rum, beer, wine and did I forget rum.

Are you guys going to be around for Memorial day weekend. We are planning to go to bowline I think.
