Marina near West Park, Ny

I have a wedding on July 4th.
Was thinking about taking the boat.
It's is at Red Maple Vineyard in West Park, ny

Is t here any marinas in the area that is easy drive to vineyard? Prefer on that side of river unless there is a close bridge.

Shadows Marina would be your best bet. You could cab it over the Mid Hudson Bridge and go north.

Why do people do a wedding on July 4th? That stuff kills me.

If I remember that stretch of river, there's a marina on the east shore in that area (Rogers Point), but nothing on the west side except big houses.
 
My thoughts exactly on the wedding on July 4th but if I can mix wedding and boat, then I will still be happy!

You might want to go to Rondout Creek, Port Ewen/Kingston, NY and take a taxi the 9 miles to the wedding. Or, you can rent a car.
 
Shadows Marina looks closer but I don't see a pool and I wonder how rocky it is right on the hudson there?
Roundout I have stayed before and its rustic but has a pool and is close to Kingston town dock.

What's the approximate miles from Say Liberty Landing to Kingston?

I think we could make it there in one day from Long Island. Figure 2 hours to Liberty and then another 2 hours to Kingston?
So 4 to 5 hour run?

We stayed overnight at Shadows, it is fully exposed to the river and can really rock and roll. The current running through the marina is wild! I would recommend going to Rondout.
 
I agree w/ Chris on the Kingston/Rondout option. From Liberty to Rondout looks to be in the 80nm range (thank you ActiveCaptain measuring tool!) If you know someone going to the wedding with a car - maybe bum a ride from the marina to the winery. . . although a taxi after a wedding sounds like a solid plan. ; )
 
80nm, that's probably 4 hours or so. Wow.

We like RYB as well and have made that trip over a dozen times now. We come from Northport so we have a decent time at 5 mph in our harbor and then again in the Harlem river in a few spots as well as waiting for the Spyten Dyvil to open and another few 5 mph spots on the Hudson, Catching the tide or at least missing the worst opposing tide can be a big help especially running up river. It is almost exactly 100 nautical miles dock to dock for us and usually takes between 6.5 and 7 hours for the entire trip - we run at about 17 knots speed over water most times picking up a knot or two with the tides.
From where the Spyten Dyvil dumps into the Hudson we are about 3.5 hours away from Kingston - if we are at the Dyvil at 8 we get to Haverstraw about 9 and Newburgh about 10 and the RYB at about 11:30.
Rental cars are pretty cheap in Kingston and they will pick you up at RYB.

So it looks like 130nm to round out dock to dock.
That can be 6 to 7 hours.
So need to look at mid way breaks as I hate to put people thru that many hours on a boat.
Haverstraw looks like about 89nm so not quite the mid point but a decent stop.
Any other places to consider?
Maybe do haverstraw on way up and liberty landing on way home.
Also what is decent to check out beyond Kingston? I think you get to locks after that?

Haverstraw is your best bet for a mid-point. No locks unless you go a couple more hours past Kingston. The next stop would be Catskill.
 
I haven't plotted these runs in years but if Liberty Landing is a mid point, and the tide is running with you the next day it could be a good thing. On the way back a stop at LL gives you access to NYC, and quite a bit of other good things. We always enjoyed staying there. The call between RYB and the Kingston dock is going to be a tough one if you want to dine out. The Kingston dock is really convenient for that.
As I recall, Kingston has their fireworks the weekend BEFORE the 4th of July so both weekends are packed up there. You had better have reservations no matter where you are going, and getting them NOW, is a very good idea. We had a tough time locating a place to stay in Kingston over Father's day.
I cannot imagine staying anywhere else but on the Rondout in consideration of West Park. Everything on the river is exposed and if you have a crew with nothing to do on an exposed dock it won't be fun for long.
 
How do you determine the tide for Hudson or is that not a big issue?
I never really considered hitting it at a certain tide.
Usually more concerned about getting out inlet by me at slack.
 
Dave I use Nobeltec Software to plot it out. It knows the speed of the boat and tides. I'll run a route and let you know what it comes up with. How many knots do you cruise at. Obviously the faster you go the less impact it has but I know it has knocked a couple of knots off our course made good depending on the day/time.
 
So I assume going up river you any low going high and down river high going low?
