I have a 98 Mariner with carpet in the kitchen. Would like to replace with a hard surface. Has anyone done this? If so, how did you deal with the hatches?
Carver did this later in production. They simply went from galley to head door and from stateroom to the end of the counter. this incorporated the large hatch that is in front of the refridge and head. That whole area is wood.
For the floor i used Traffic Master Allure, for the edges i used aluminum L shape which one side is on the hatch and the other is on the floor. I will post later witha picture and a link to store. Hope this helps. The floor is great, it is heavy duty material and have 10 years warranty and most important it is water proof!
Sure, i used L shape aluminum 3/4" by 3/4" with pre made holes. I will take some more close up pictures without the hatch so it is easier to understand.
Bought it in NY metal. Less than $200. Very cheap, it's a lot of trim because I have 6 hatches. Its flat and with two young kids it was huge worry for me. The edges are round. I will take closer pictures on the boat this weekend and post.
So the aluminum L shape i used is 1/16 thick with pre made holes, they come in 8' or 12' length.the leg size is 3/4 by 3/4. I started by shaving the hatches on the sides a little because i had carpet before and with the trim extra space needed i cut the edges a bit. Took inside length of the outside of the hatch first (floor section) added 1.5 inches and cut a piece of the trim. Then i took a straight cut of the inner section, once i thought i had it right i cut the out side 45 degrees. Maybe the pictures will make it easier to understand i hope this helps. Again i ordered the trim in NY Meta for less that $200. Any marine brand was hundreds of $$$$ more.
That is great looking floor and aluminum trim! I just bought 97 Carver 325 Aft Cabin and would like to replace the carpet with this type of floor. I read up on the Allure and it sounds like it is pretty easy to install. I have a concern about it in the hot Florida climate after reading some of the manufacturers material. Does anybody have any experience with the Allure flooring in hot climates?
