A week or two ago, I asked about possible marinas that would let the admiral and me temporarily store our boat and trailer overnight for a few nights. Having a boat ramp there is good, too. Overnight storage with no ramp could work also.

We're thinking about trailering the boat to SoFL (Biscayne Bay / Upper Keys) for a trip some time next Fall. Our boat is a 25 foot cuddy with no A/C, and not great for sleeping, so we plan to sleep in hotels or motels at night.....Hence the need to store the boat at night. We plan to just take day trips with the boat.

Pascal replied with a couple places that might be possible, and those included Crandon Park Marina on Key Biscayne and BlackPoint Marina (a little north of Homestead.)
After a little research, I see that there is also Mathesson Hammock Marina and Homestead Bayfront Marina with boat ramps in the Biscayne Bay area. Does anyone have any insigth on these places as far as overnight storage, ramp quality, good approach depth, etc. ?

We'll also be in the SoFL area (without boat) in April for 9 days, and plan to spend part of a day to do some investigating of possible temporary boat storage and good ramp locations.

Thanks for any replies / insight, etc.

Matheson Hammock is a very good marina with excellent ramps. Because it is popular, it gets very crowded on weekends, so you should expect long wait times. I do not know if they allow transient trailer storage or not. You may want to give them a call. Approach is good with a very short channel, so you are quickly out on the bay. Depth in the channel in some places can be as low as 4 feet. To give you an indication of how popular this marina is, I have been on their wait list for a slip since 2004. Last time I checked I was told it could be another 3-5 years!

Homestead is not bad either and a closer launch ramp if you want to go to the Keys, but again, I do not know if they allow overnight storage. Access channel is a lot longer here, although not as long as BlackPoint, but there are (or were last time I went there) some spots that can be really shallow (less than 4 feet).

Thanks guys. It looks like Homestead Bayfront Marina has a big parking lot for regular cars (for the slip-holders?), but there doesn't seem to be many trailer parking spots. Does the trailer parking at Homestead fill up on weekends? How about BlackPoint...does it fill on weekends? It looks like it has a big parking lot for trailers.

Thanks!

Just get down into the keys a little bit. 75% of the hotels/motels that are on the water have their own ramps, trailer parking and docks. Here is one of my favorites in Marathon. http://www.marathonfla.com/

If it's 90+ degress and sunny, Blackpoint will be fairly packed, but it will usually only fill up on holiday weekends. On July 4th and Columbus Day, forget it.

Thanks bajanbum. I would have figured that July 4th would be the "slow season" in South FL with it being so hot. Sounds like you all really like it hot down there.

Thanks.

Are you kidding! The hot weather is why we're here. If you like the sandbar, the hotter, the better.
