May be moving to the Ballston Spa area. What area should we be looking at if we want waterfront - boating property?

thanks

Funny, I was just up there yesterday for a meeting. I don't know the area myself but I will ask a co-worker who lives there.

This is the reply from my friend:

"Saratoga lake is the closest, however the lake is kind of small, and I can never figure out where they all go, but it is waterfront. Lake George is beautiful, but unless you are really loaded with money you can't touch property up there. We love Sacandoga Lake, it is about 30 miles from here, but could possibly find something in any price range. I think Sacandoga offers the most variety as to what you want to do with your boat, meaning islands, coves, fishing, sandbars, party spots, and food/bar places you can dock at. Not as commercialized/touristie as Lake George. We have been on that lake for many summers and love it".

Hope that helps

Hi guys...

Robert, when you get up here, please look me up, I'm President of the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County based in Clifton Park (about 10 miles from the center of Ballston Spa) after relocating here earlier this year from the southern part of the state. How big of a boat do you plan on using? If you have a yacht you want Lake George or Lake Champlain, or maybe the upper Hudson below Troy. But if you're talking a runabout, day sailer or fishing boat, don't discount Saratoga Lake which is just a few miles east of Ballston Spa. Its a pretty big lake in its own right, larger than I thought it would be. Prices might be a bit steep however, but less than Lake George...

There's a lake called Round Lake which is pretty nice but its small and not much of a boating lake. A bit less expensive to live there however. Judy mentioned Sacandaga Lake above, its a very nice lake also but kinda far off the beaten path, it may not work well if you are looking for waterfront property with a short commute to work.

One really neat option if you're not in a hurry would be either the canalized Hudson or Mohawk Rivers. The NY State Barge Canal is still in operation and you can boat and even buy property on either of those rivers, sometimes at rather modest prices. Or again, if you arent talking a big boat, there are stretches of the upper Hudson near Glens Falls which are quite beautiful and lined with nice homes. Those arent connected to anywhere by canals, though...

So there are plenty of places to go here, and through the ChamberI have access to all kinds of maps and relocation kits, real estate people, etc. If you'd like, I can have one of my staff make up a package and send it to you. Also my office is right off Exit 9 behind Price Chopper and its a very convenient place to do research if you are in the area. Incidentally, what brings you to Ballston??? Are you involved with GLOBALFOUNDRIES or State Farm by any chance??

Judy, I guess I should ask the same question - do you come here often? What brings you to town? Dont mean to pry but these days there is so much opportunity in southern Saratoga County - its what brought me here from Mahopac in the first place! Every day I go somewhere and meet people who are doing some wonderful things, from nanotechnology to solar and wind energy to battery plants, but also old time marine industries along the Erie Canal and a ton of agriculture. I live in Clifton Park, 5 minutes from a huge shopping district, 15 mins from GLOBALFOUNDRIES or General Electric, but also 2 or 3 minutes from a family owned cattle rance and about 5 mins from an apple orchard. Oh, and 10 minutes or so from the Erie Canal. Yes, its a pretty magical place up here right now!!!

Hi Pete, not prying. I'm a rather open book type lol.No never been there before last week but boss decided going forward we will be having more of our monthly meetings there. Reason is we have a few accounts up there & those folks always have the burden of driving down to us for our monthly meetings so she decided to split the meetings north & south to be fair. We all agree with that. It was a very very pretty ride. Took three peers with me & we all enjoyed it very much. Our meeting was at Sysco Albany. After my friend told me about that lake (Sacandoga)it sounded nice so I researched it & it sounds VERY nice with lots to do. I think I will be taking a ride up to check it out.

Hi Judy, thanks for the note - it is indeed a wonderful ride. Hey, was that the office at One Leibich Lane in Halfmoon??? Thats about 2 miles from my office, and they are members of our Chamber :) !!! We have a fellow named Paul Gallo listed in our system, I am not sure if I've met him yet. Is he your contact up there? We should talk more about the company so that I can serve our member better! My cell is 518-522-7251, please tell your colleague up here to reach out to me or call/text me yourself. It is indeed a small world...

By the way, one thing that excites me about doing business up here is that there are so many companies like yours going up and down the Hudson Valley. I simply moved from the south end to the north end of a giant commerce corridor. Its really fun!

Sacandaga is very nice, I think its about 40 mins from where you had your meeting. And there are so many other lakes and rivers - the Erie Canal is about 5 mins from that office, Saratoga Lake about 15. Lake George - 45 mins, Champlain perhaps 1:15. We are in the middle of lots of neat waterways, that is for sure!!!
