SEE RECAP AT BOTTOM...

Hello everybody,

Its that time again. I wanted to let you all know about the Show at the Westchester County Center and hope you'll come and visit...

UPDATED INFORMATION 2/9/07:

Some hard core fishing boat guys were a bit disappointed yesterday because they expected more fishing boats there. That segment of the industry is taking a beating right now and we're a lot lighter in those types of boats than we've been in the past, so if you're looking for a big time fishing boat Show this probably isn't the right one to attend. There are some boats by Sea Hunt, Sea Pro, and Boston Whaler in addition to the Hudson River Fishermens' Association booth. IMHO its worth coming just to hang around and "kibbutz" with those guys...

Oh, and the Kayak lady is also selling CROCS :) !!!

Sorry that the boat Racing Club video demonstration didn't materialize - the guy who runs the Club is in the Hospital!!! As you know I can certainly sympathize with boat shows and Hospitals...

Oh well, there are plenty of other high performance powerboats there in addition to the rest of the boats. I am so excited that our little boat show is playing host to some of these wild, fancy, and expensive speedboats. The front 60 feet of the County Center is housing some of the most expensive marine real estate in Westchester right now!!!

WOW! This is turning out to be quite a gathering of speedboat enthusiasts! There will be 4 Sunsation boats there from 28-32 feet, speeds up to 90 MPH with standard power, a 28 footer by Active Thunder, and two Fountain boats: a 35 Lightning with T 525s that goes 103 mph, and a 38 Lightning that goes 114MPH with T 700s and #6s So all you speed freaks out there take note!!!

Here are some pics taken on Thursday during setup:

As for me, my tastes are for a lot tamer fare, but whatever...

SEMINAR SCHEDULE:

Lake Ontario Salmon Fishing (Carl Bruger, Hudson River Fishermens' Association): Friday 2PM, Friday 6PM, Seminar Room B

Carl's discussion to include techniques on catching salmon in mighty Lake Ontario...

Hudson River Striper Fishing (Mike Banahan, Hudson River Fishermens' Association): Saturday 11AM, Saturday 4PM, Seminar Room B

Mike's discussion to include the ins and outs of catching the treasured stripers in our Hudson River waters...

Here's a pic of the HRFA booth, taken on Thursday:

The Sport of Kayaking (Tom Remsing, Eddyline Kayaks): Sat 11AM, 3PM, at the Hudson Valley Outfitters booth

Tom's discussion/demonstration to include various types of kayaks, materials used in manufacturing, performance/durability issues, designing a kayak for performance and stability, choosing the right kayak, kayak safety...

Other neat info:

(1) There will be a large contingent of high performance boats and the "nuts" that drive them [:-mischievous] there this year - Sunsation, Fountain, Eliminator, and Active Thunder.
(2) Don't forget the NY State Jet Ski/Boating Safety Class will take place Saturday 1-5PM and Sunday 11AM-3PM, in Seminar Room A - let me know if anyone's interested, because PRE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED and you must attend both classes to get the Certificate...

(3) As with last year, we have a large display of FREE upstate travel/canal information displayed at the Show for those who are interested, as shown in the pic below:

(4) Oh yeah, there will be a bunch of boats and other stuff there too...

AC show is Feb 6-10 if I'm not mistaken. Bad timing.

Yeah, we're coming up against ACY and Nassau also. The luck of the draw this year with calendar availability. Oh well. Obviously the bigger boats are going to be down there in NJ. But for anyone who's not in the mood to drive 3 hours we'll have some stuff to look at too, and as I mentioned the literature display should be pretty nice...

Also, the NY State Jetski and Boater Safety Course will be given at the Metro Show again this year, if anyone needs it. Let me know if anybody wants more info on that...

SEMINAR SCHEDULE (tentative):

Lake Ontario Salmon Fishing (Carl Bruger, Hudson River Fishermens' Association): Friday 2PM, Friday 6PM

Hudson River Striper Fishing (Mike Banahan, Hudson River Fishermens' Association): Saturday 11AM, Saturday 4PM

Others TBA...

Don't forget the NY State Jet Ski/Boating Safety Class will take place Saturday and Sunday - let me know if anyone's interested...

Pete, I maybe free for one of the days! Let me know what you come up with.

Were you interested in giving a seminar or something, Al, or were you commenting on the BE booth idea???

Pete, I could do either or both. I would just like to do my part for BoaterEd and the Hudsonvalley.

I'd be willing to volunteer to do a one or two days manning the BE booth. Just couldn't do the entire 3 days.

Dat, the Show is Friday through Sunday, February 8-10 at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

The web site is www.metroboatshow.com .

If you guys want to man a booth I would love to put one in the Show. I do have to get Les' approval of course. Please spread the word around and lets see who we have available, and I'll go back to Les about it...

Just an update - I don't think we have enough volunteers to put a booth together. Al, if you're interested in doing a seminar I could probably get you into the schedule.

My original thought was to have the BE booth manned by 2-3 people at a time and then someone like Al could give impromptu seminars right at the booth from time to time. But if that doesn't work then maybe we could just do a seminar or 2. Any thoughts???

Pete, Ill be free that Friday, so just let me know how i can help. I can give a seminar on marine surveying and hang-out at the BE booth.

Thanks, Al!

So who else is available to do anything that weekend. Just you and John, so far. Any other volunteers???

Sorry Pete I have prior commitments, otherwise I would be happy to spend some time.

Would give you a hand in a heart beat Pete but having shoulder surgery on the 8th (I can't lift the toilet seat, or the glass of milk for the cookies!). But there has to be 6-8 ready to step up for this one...great opportunity to promote our river and the RIGHT way to use it.

Pete, how about asking Zoller's or one of the other exhibitors if they have some personnel to lend a hand, they would benefit from good words and contacts for things to do.

Thanks for the advice, George, but I'm having enough trouble just getting these people to exhibit their own stuff at the Show, never mind others...

Sorry to hear about your surgery. As you know I just had a visit to Columbia myself, so we are all a bunch of walking wounded. I hope you're going to recover quickly - if you can't even lift the toilet seat, I'm not even going to ask how you're going to, uh, take care of business in the restroom. I mean, we're nice guys and all, but don't even think of asking us to "hold it" for you :D !!!

George;

Good luck with the surgery, and don't worry about it. I'm 56 years old and seem to have had trouble with the toilet seat my whole life.

I gave up lifting the seat long time ago, If I miss someone else has to dry it up!

Good luck George and heal quick. Boating season is just around the corner.

Pete, we wont be at the show this year so cant offer any time. We are going to the Miami boat show so we are not hitting all the local ones. Depending on the weather, we probably will do the rockland show in march....

Oh great, you're going to hang out with all the rich people in sunny Florida instead of us! Oh well. Hope to see you at RCC...

Nah, going down to see the babes in bikinis...I mean going down to look at new boats
