The admiral would like to take a cruise from Miami to Jupiter. Basically we would leave from Matheson Hammock and arrive to the Jupiter inlet.

Has anyone done a similiar trip? Any guesstimates on the time it would take? This would be our furthest trip thus far and would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Tks.

outside or inside ?

if the ocean is nice, it's no big deal on the outside, not that great a trip though unless you have a good reason to go there. on the inside, it's full day with all the NWZs, fun to do once to see the ICW, the nice homes, etc...

as to how long it will take, outside, if you don't tell us your cruise speed... it's kinda hard to answer !!! check the distance on a chart and calculate the time, i'm not sure i understand the question.

inside as mentioned above, most of the trip is NWZ so speed is irrelevant. I did West Palm BEach - Miami in 10 hours a couple of years ago... Port St Lucie (north of Jupiter) to WPB the day before was about 4 hours inside.

a quick look at GE shows about 75 NM from Gov Cut to Jupiter inlet... at 25kts, that's 3 hrs...

If you go on the inside plan on 2 days...it will make it much more enjoyable. There are a ton of no-wake zones from Miami through Boca, so just take your time and enjoy it. I'd recommend stopping in either Ft. Lauderdale or WPB for the night....if in FLL stop at Bahia Mar for the best options of restaurants, etc., in walking distance. In WPB go to Sailfish Marina just on the northeast side of the inlet...

Or you could enjoy yourself at anchor either in Ft.Lauderdale at Lake Sylvia or at Palm Beach off of Peanut Island OR the huge anchorage at the North end of Lake Worth...
It seems that some boaters are letting go of the enjoyment of anchoring out in calm beautiful areas amongst other boaters, hey to each his or her own, just enjoy yourself safely.

Boca Lake is about half way, good overnight anchorage, if you take outside route just duck in via Boca Inlet. If you take the inside route figure on about 7 hours during the week, 8 or 9 if on the weekend. Anchor at the northeast end of the lake, good holding and nearby buildings will block any winds, depth will be in the 5' to 7' range, good holding.
